Microsoft has built limitations into XP's handling of FAT32 partitions. There is also a 4 GB file size limit in FAT32. See the articles below for more info. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314463 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Allocation_Table Since your drive exceeds 100GB you clearly didn't for...

Not sure how useful this is, but opening up the bin file in a hex editor gives the machine type and serial number and you can edit the values. So it seems that you can take any eeprom dump, edit the type and serial number to your system and reflash the eeprom while keeping the system information in...

I bought one on Ebay from the seller a-plus-batteries. It has been in service for 10 months and shows 12% wear level. There are cheaper alternatives, but this seller uses Panasonic cells and offers a 1 year warranty. The original IBM battery is 3200 maH and the replacement is 4400 maH so it provides...

A wavelength is only 4.9" at 2.4 GHz. You might find considerable signal strength variation with small changes in antenna position. The position of your body with respect to the antenna may also have an effect. It's extra work, but I'd suggest repeating the test sequence on at least three different ...

Here is what I would try: Remove all memory modules and try to boot with just the 32Mb memory on the system board. If that fails try to get into Easy Setup by holding the F1 key down and powering on. If you can get into setup, run the system board and memory tests. If the system board test passes bu...

However the CD did work properly on an A31P so it is something incompatible with older PC's and not a bad CD. ...

Sometimes the bios can impose a limit on hard disk size but since you have the latest, that is not the problem. I would download a boot disk for Win98 first edition from www.bootdisk.com. You have the latest bios and the memory modules are good according to your test results. Try inspecting the contact pins in the bank 2 socket and also the solder joints to the motherboard. A bent pin or bad solder joint can cause the memory to fail in that socket. Even if you see a problem, repair m...

The Canon scanner needs 5V at 500mA according to their website. A PCMCIA USB 2.0 card will probably not supply enough current. Here is a quote from the Belkin website. From the cardbus controller of the laptop you get 1Amp at 3.3 Volts which equals 3.3W. The USB Controller of the card draws 350mA at...

In DOS the serial port and IR do compete for resources. The default is for IR to be enabled and serial port disabled. The configuration utility referenced in the note above allows you to disable IR and enable the serial port. Things will probably start working then.
