I think it's easier to just make a set of recovery disks (or use the ones you've already made) and start over. That's what I did when I installed my SSD and it definitely worked fine.

Re: Do you reuse Thinkpad screws?
That being said I also put a dab of loc-tite on each one when it is put back in the machine. Just make sure you use the lowest-strength Loctite!! (I'd never do this, BTW.) Anyway, those are special nylon-coated screws. If you re-use them, one day you'll take out your trusty Thinkpad and all o...

Re: access connections, should i install it or not?
I finally gave up on AC. I had it in various versions on a number of Thinkpads, and it was always buggy. The last straw was when I was unable to get it to work on my university's secure network. Their IT people wouldn't help me, either. I surely don't miss it (along with the other ThinkVantage junk ...

Funny we're talking about Model M's. Mine says it was made in Mexico (in 1990). Whatever; I love it.

Re: Why are X60s used prices so low? X201?
I've been buying off-lease used desktops and laptops for years, for myself, friends, and clients. I had one bad one once, which the (eBay) seller replaced instantly. I think a lot of these machines, the laptops especially, are issued to people who leave them in their desk drawers for the two or thre...

Re: X60s enhancements
1. Put in an SSD. I got a used 2nd-gen Intel and it's amazing. For the missing capacity, I've got an external USB disk. Even with SATA limitations, I'm very pleased. 2. Do a fresh OS install, but only so you can get rid of the ThinkVantage junk. I realize terrorists might steal my computer etc. but ...

Get a Dock II and a dual-monitor card
CABoulder I was having exactly the same problem and I finally gave up in exasperation. The best deal IMO is to simply get a Dock II (which has a 1/2-length PCI slot) and a dual-monitor PCI card (that's only half-length), like the Matrox G450. (You can get all of this on eBay for less than $100) I th...

Sold!: Recovery CD set for T40/T40P - $25 shipped
I've got an extra set of Recovery CDs for T40 and T40P (2373, 2374) that appear to have never been touched. This is 1 x P/N 19R2588 and 4 x 01R8066 (discs 1 through 4, that is). I ended up with -- i.e. bought and paid for -- two sets of these, so I tried to sell this set on eBay. $S told eBay to can...
