W700 Quad Core: Ordered 9/4/2008, expected ship date of 9/17/2008, when I ordered, and still showing 9/17 estimate as of 9/10. Had ordered on 8/14, but wasn't quad core and cancelled. Given T61p works fine with 8GB (2 x 4GB), I don't see why the W700 wouldn't work with the 4GB SODIMMs shipping now apparently (not from Lenovo), which seems to have the exact specifications required. http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT51264BC1067 Will wait until more affordable, a...

W700 Quad Core capable, and can now order with that CPU too

A lot of press out there that tout Lenovo being first with the Intel Quad Core in the W700. Many articles are quoting portions of this Lenovo press release, "Lenovo Unleashes PC Beast on Mobile Workstation Market with ThinkPad W700" http://www.lenovo.com/news/us/en/2008/08/w700.html Here's other rel...

I have my 6459-CTO T61p working just fine on 2 of the same 4GB DIMMs TP667/4G, works great, all RAM recognized with Vista Ultimate (64 bit).

Much more elbow room for juggling multiple OSs with VMware workstation.

Who knows, let's imagine the best case scenario: a BIOS fix and/or video driver update gets us all past this, no mainboard swap needed (I have 3 T61p machines in my house). Then, maybe someday next year, 4GB SODIMMs are affordable, and perhaps another BIOS update supports 8GB memory (64 bit Vista), ...

What are the difference(s) between T61p notebooks that are exhibiting these problems and those that are not? Lenovo System Update 3.13 shows newer stuff than website

Interesting, this update today http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-66956 has the new System Update 3.13. I hated older versions, especially back in September when the background scheduler used to suck up 100% CPU. I know they've now fixed fixed that i...
