Re: Fedora 10 wireless networking and T40

How did you get Fedora 10 to scan for wireless networks?
Booted up, logged-in, and clicked on the network icon on the desktop toolbar. It listed the visible networks, and I picked my network. Didn't do anything special.

Re: Fedora 10 wireless networking and T40

Thanks for the tips, I wussed out and went the conservative route and just installed madwifi. I'm sure those tips will come in handy at some point though, for example I didn' t know about koji. Wireless is now working with the Linksys (haven't been in the vicinity of the Be Unlimited router yet, but...

Re: Fedora 10 wireless networking and T40

OS is patched up-to-date, kernel version is 2.6.27.21-170.2.56.fc10.i686 The neworking drop-down menu shows a number of wireless networks including my own. The "Wireless Network Authentication Required" dialog box pops up after a while, prompting for a network key (this is shown correctly set from a...

Fedora 10 wireless networking and T40

Are there any known issues getting wireless networking in Fedora 10 working on a T40 ? I can see the router but never get a working connection. I have tried on two networks, Be Unlimited router using WPA, and Linksys using WEP.

I believe this is a fairly common occurence on T40's etc. In device manager I have the USB 2.0 controller disabled as it seems a bit less flaky trying to run as USB 1.0.

Thanks for the replies. I'm kinda surprised Lenovo don't sell these, they would fit a whole load of old but not that old models. I might try a Chinese knock-off since it's cheap and there's no other obvious option.

where can I buy an ultrabay slim hdd adaptor

I have a T40, so I think I need one of these : marketing part 62P4554, replacement part FRU 62P4553, see http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-46460.html As far as I can make out Lenovo no longer sell this, so any ideas where I can get one ? It's a bit nuts. An expensive portable that includes an optical drive, but no docking station or dvi out. Small hard drive - ssd's will grow. Slow chip (though I'm not at all sure where the X300 cpu performs relative to a T61p), but that'll improve with subsequent revisions. But no dvi / docking ......

Are there any details on the docking station ? What capabilities it has, and whether there will be a "traditional style" Thinkpad dock too (I guess not as there is no suitable connector on the X300 ?). I believe there is no dvi out on the X300 docking station, which is a big shame (nice to have a hi...

Skimmed this thread quickly, so sorry if this is incorrect. If you still have a device that needs a driver and have the turbo memory option on your Thinkpad, it could be that. Install the XP driver that makes XP ignore the turbo memory.

dvd playback stuttering (T61p / Quadro FX 570M / XP)

For your information, in case you have the same problem. I have a 14" (1400x1050) T61p with the NVidia Quadro FX 570M graphics card, OS "downgraded" from the original Vista Ultimate to XP Pro. When I tried to play a dvd I noticed playback stuttering a lot, this occurred in both Intervideo WinDVD and...

I'm not sure exactly what it said but from memory it seemed to write to the dvd, then eject the dvd and then ask for disc 1 which would be the dvd it just ejected ... which it then complained about when I stuck it back in, as it wasn't blank (I think). There doesn't seem to be much written to the dv...

how to create recovery dvd using Rescue and Recovery 4 ?

Hi, I have a T61p with Vista Ultimate and want to create a backup of Vista before I replace it with XP Pro (since this is what we must use at work). The instructions here http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-68317.html say that you'll need 1 CD and 1 DVD, or 8 CD's so I thought I'd go the...
