Any suggestions? I've now been able to change the driver for both the display adapter and monitor without any luck in fixing the problem? Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

I also just got an SXGA+ X61t recently. So far I love it except for basically the screen issue you mention and the fact that the screen just baaaaaarely doesn't turn to laptop mode all the way (its only off by a millimeter or so, but it's enough that I notice it every time I use it). Does anyone have a recommendation for a USB optical drive? I've been looking around for a slim, portable, USB or firewire drive and haven't been able to find too much that doesn't require separate AC power. All I've found so far is:
