Re: ThinkPlus 24x7x4 experiences
I purchased the 24x7 on-site and thinkpad accidental damage coverage for 3 years when I got my x61. I've rarely had to use it (twice), but when I have, the support routed me to Georgia when the techs spoke clear english and were actually helpful. I got a crack on my x61 (from the airport) right by t...

That's a pretty good deal; my x61 7675CTO was almost $1900 (w/ the 3yr protection). I got the ultrabay and the DVD-RW too, but that's still a good deal. Did you use coupons? I don't know if I ever mentioned thin here, it may be OT, but when I ordered my x61 I selected Vista Ultimate and got Vista pr...

I didn't like the fact that you couldn't cut and paste files in the OS, I mean this is (was) 2007 and you have to drag and drop files up or down levels of folders? Come on. Windows 3.11 could cut and paste files. Just click on a file, option-C to copy and option-X to paste. Works great for me! :-) ...

I ordered mine on 12/31 and it said ship date would be 1/24, but I actually *received* it on 1/18. They kind of have a squirelly shipping process. I was notified the order was shipped the day before I got it. The tracking hadn't updated enough in the UPS system to give me a ETA on it (was thinking i...

In the movie, "You've Got Mail" with Tom Hanks as a major bookstore owner who is taking putting Meg Ryan's little childrens' bookstore out of business (and takes place in the Upper West Side of Manhattan where I live) they email to each other using AOL. Hanks uses a Thinkpad and Ryan uses a Apple l...

My order was placed on 12-31 for an x61 and the ship date is currently 1-24-07. That is a pretty long wait compared to my t60 I got about 18 months ago. I bought my x61 on the 31st too to take advantage of the year end coupon deal (saved an extra $200+) and my ship date is also the 24th of January....

Acronis
I've always had bad results with acronis, YMMV of course. Either it wouldn't restore correctly or it would and my MBF was messed up or it couldn't handle my NTFS and ext3 file systems together. I dunno, it was just a mess. I've heard similar stories from other admins about acronis. I worked on the l...

Clone
You can use norton ghost or you can use a free version called PING http://ping.windowsdream.com/ I've never used PING, but it comes highly recommended. With anything like this, you may want to do a few dry runs first. Like, back up a non-boot disk and restore it to another HD with a different size. ...
