Me too, my current T60 is a great workhorse. It is problem free in XP and Vista 64. I also like the image ThinkPads projects. It says I am here for business. The classic ThinkPad black does not draw attention to it, so I can have the full attention of my clients. It is the polar opposite of that fru...

I had seen this behavior on my client's computer. The CPU would spike every 10 second for 2-3 seconds. It turned out to be a trojan that sends out spam on that interval. Maybe you should check that.

How big is that VMWare virtual disk file? Do other files larger than 2GB or 4GB run into the same error?

I suspect the file size is the culprit. You can try to split the VMWare volume into multiple smaller files. Look up the documentation for vmware-vdiskmanager.exe.

Re: Questions regarding the Atheros card for T60

1. What are the negatives? Your computer will no longer qualify for the Centrino branding. Admittedly, I am not a fan of Intel wireless products, especially on the Linux platform. As a driver developer, the availability of Atheros driver source code won me over. Intel driver was available on...

Re: T60P Vista 64 wakes up with lid shut - blue screen

Everytime I run the update from Lenovo it tell me that the Intel Chipset Support and Vista KB929637 64bit needs to be installed. I install them and then the update utility still says they need to be installed. My T60 does the same too, but the reminder goes away after I installed this package from ...

Some of you probably know already, TrueCrypt version 5 was released on the 5th and includes pre-boot whole disk encryption. This is another option one can go with. Since it's a new release, I'm going to wait and see if it has any major bugs before deploying it on computers with critical data. I wish...

I have had many different OS's running on my T60 at various time. XP, Vista, MacOS, Linux, etc. Right now I got XP (oem) and Vista. For me, it's more convenient to run Linux in a VMWare. Back up between OS installs should be standard operating procedure. I used Linux-based System Rescue CD , the par...

Core 2 Duo E6550 and E6450 have the same clock, L2 cache size, etc. Only the front side bus speed is different. E6550/E6450's 1333 MHz is twice of T7600's 667MHz.

WiMAX sounds awesome! I will remain cautiously optimistic until I see the price and coverage of the WiMAX network. The biggest WiMAX service provider in US is Sprint, and I dread the mobile phone approach they will take toward the service. I've read the words "glossy" and "LED backlit" on many peop...

Re: Mini-poll: Hard drive encryption or Vista Ultimate's Bit

Mini-poll: Hard drive encryption or Vista Ultimate's BitLocker? Disclaimer: I do not have hands on experience with BitLocker. I only get to use Vista Business on my machines. I would use the hard drive encryption over BitLocker given these two choices. Being a hardware implementation, it should hav...

There are tools to clear the drive, which I think would completely destroy your data, for today's recovery technology. I guess one could worry about the future. (In this case, I don't.) Those tools are great when hard drives still work, but what if the drive has failed and the OS can't detect it? A...

Got my eyes set on Best Buy's Hitach 200 GB external drive on sale starting Sunday for $119.99 - whatever coupon you might have. From what I heard, the ones with serial number beginning with DTG are 7k200 drives. Swap the drives and you can use the old system drive as external storage. Will post bac...

Re: What will the next T series Thinkpad bring and WHEN...

On average, how often do new Thinkpad series come out? Every time Intel releases a new mobile platform. So the next one will come out around May, when Intel is slated to release the Montevina platform. It will have 1066 MHz FSB, DDR3 and DDR2 support, WiMAX, etc. What Lenovo will include is anyone'...

Are you sure you've thinkpad T60? Yes, it is a type 8743 from the blowout sale last December. Media card reader in T60?

While tooling around my T60 15.4" widescreen today, I noticed there is a little door on the front to the right of the trackpad buttons. Behind the door, there is a space that seems to be intended for an integrated media card reader. It even has the card marking and light pipe for device access light...
