Hi guys... My daughter has a T60 type 2008-HC6 that sounds as if it has a dying fan. Are you by any chance using Firefox as your web browser?
I just added Firefox to all of my computers and had the exact same problem. Once I upgraded my trackpoint driver (from the Lenovo website) the problem was solved.

I downloaded the latest drivers and all is well on all computers. I had MOST of the hotkey drivers installed but not all of them. Still not sure why it disappeared on one of the machines but it's working now.
