Re: Look at how stupid we have become!

AlphaKilo470 , did all that happen in georgia..? just another case of the politically correct world coming down on good sense.. and everyone trying to cover their behinds from a lawsuit.. The story is abridged; I cut the fine boring details out. Annoyingly enough, the incident is still on my record...

Re: Look at how stupid we have become!

I had a pocket knife at my high school awhile back (late 2004) and when it fell outta my pocket, I ended up arrested and the county wanted to press felony charges on me. I was able to get out of the situation by paying a lot of money and doing 150 hours of community service. I had to drive myself to...

Re: Collecting old Thinkpads

The AV cables shouldn't be too hard to find; just search on eBay. I once found some at a flea market, lol. I have a RAM cover if you want it... In fact, I have an entire 760C if anyone wants it. You'd probably have an easier time finding a replacement floppy drive than you would just getting the eje...

Re: The Vista Saga just keeps playing out

I've been happy with Vista when I used it. I even had it running nicely on a T23 with 1gb ram and a 1.13ghz cpu once (though I do understand not as many users are willing to poke and prod every minuscule setting before using the computer). I just don't find any of it's features compelling enough for...

Re: Upgrading by downgrading...

I'm not sure what sparked me to put the Matrox card in my system but whenever the most intensive games on your computer include a bunch of Genesis emulator roms, Duke Nukem 3D and that Pinball game that comes with Windows, you start to appreciate the kind of effort that used to go into 2D accelerati...

I still carry my favorite 90s relic (that I own) most places I go; it's a Hewlett Packard 95LX that was manufactured in July of 1991. ...it has IR too

Upgrading by downgrading...

Well, I'm not sure if I upgraded or downgraded my desktop tonight... I took it apart and threw an old (circa 1995) Matrox Millennium 4mb card into a spare PCI slot and am using that as my primary card right now. Text and pictures and pretty much anything not requiring 3D power just looks sooooo much...

Re: Is your ThinkPad less than mint? (small pic 35kb)

My 600X, as nice as it runs, probably will never be stolen unless it's come upon by an incredibly desperate thief. The wrist pad has paint worn off in the bottom left corner, the outside has plenty of scratches and wear spots in the paint on the top and bottom and the keyboard is pretty shiny. It's ...

FS: ThinkPad 760C

Looking to sell a ThinkPad 760C. This laptop has no hard drive (ribbon cable to connect hard drive is included), no ac adapter and the battery seems to be shot. The right lid latch is somewhat quirky and the LCD brightness slider is chipped. The keyboard says 760EL on it. Otherwise, the system looks...

Re: Original sell price of 600 series ?

Recently, I did notice a hairline crack under the base of my 600X. However, having never observed cracks in that spot on a 600 series machine before (I've worked with many), I dismissed it thinking it might have once been dropped. I do find it annoying the lid will slightly warp from use (most Think...

Re: Streaming Video - CPU or GPU limited on 770X with 500Mhz P3?

The GPU could have something to do with it. However, when I had a 650mhz PIII in a 600E (with a NeoMagic 2mb chip vs the 600X 4mb chip) and I, oddly enough, had better performance when I returned it to the original PII 400mhz chip. I have never worked with a 770X or Z but I've worked with plenty of ...

Re: Streaming Video - CPU or GPU limited on 770X with 500Mhz P3?

On my 500mhz PIII equipped 600X, if I'm not running too many programs in the background (I can usually get away with having Trillian and maybe another small app or two open), I can watch videos on Hulu in normal mode. If I go to full screen, it bogs pretty bad. Pretty much the smae with Youtube and ...

The 570 and 600X were some of the first ThinkPAds to use the stnadard connector. For models older than that, IBM did have an adapter available. You could probably find one on eBay.

Re: MP3 player to match ThinkPad....reccomendations?

Get a SanDisk Sansa Express. It plugs directly into the computer (MTP compatible; recognized as a flash drive on computers without software to support MTP) and has a MicroSD slot. However, the bottom side is silver.

Re: WTB: OLD LAPTOP ANY KIND $25

Do you need a hard drive? If not, I could sell you my old OmniBook 900. It has a 366mhz Pentium II, 64 or 128mb of memory (I forget), 12" TFT (800x600). Only major issue would be that the USB port is broken. AC adapter is missing.

Re: AC adapter Pin problem

A few weeks ago, I fixed an Averatec laptop for a friend. The power jack's center connector had come undone. After soldering it back in place, I added a wire going from the pin to the mainboard so that way, if it comes loose again, the laptop will still get power. For that job, you just need to make...

Odd choice for a home

I left my Bic cigarette lighter on the back patio for a couple of hours the other day and right before I used it to light a smoke, I noticed a small inchworm had built a nest inside of it. I decided to leave the critter alone; watching the thing live in my lighter is more amusing than lighting up my...

I'm looking to get $25 for this system; price includes shipping within the continental United States. Will ship to Canada but that'll result in a higher price to compensate for shipping. I will also trade this laptop for a 5400rpm hard drive (PATA, any size over 40gb), a good condition 600 series pa...

I accidentally did a similar butcher shop job to a Handspring Visor I was replacing the screen on back when I was still in high school. Every now and then, when you take apart as many gadgets as I do, something will break by my fault.

Re: Battery problems & Wireless Internet

If you want wireless LAN on your computer, you have two options... You can get a MiniPCI wireless card (which also means you have to make sure your laptop has antennas for it built in) or you can simply buy a PCMCIA wireless card. Have you tried removing the battery for awhile? Will the laptop power...

Re: 380z -- help with parts problem

Looks like aside from the retainer bar missing, there's a pice of plastic broken off that middle connector as well. However, that broken piece of plastic might not make too big of a deal. I have a dead 380D motherboard in a box somewhere and would be glad to remove it's retaining clip and mail it to...

Re: A great use for an old Thinkpad

The white semi-transparent sheet that locks into the case is not an actual cable; it's there to drotect the cables when you're opening the machine. Just make sure the three main cables are firmly seated into the connectors and there's no dirt or grunge in there. 8611 would indicate an issue with the...
