Re: Thinkpad 760xd and 760el hardware compatibility

The 760s incorporate a modular design meaning each component is separate. You can swap the sound systems between the 760XD and EL; likewise, you can swap the CPU chips. However, the 760XD has a higher resolution screen and more video memory as well as a chassis fan. The 760Xd will probably run faste...

Re: Streaming Video - CPU or GPU limited on 770X with 500Mhz P3?

Depending how you're using the computer, you could set up the Windows Remote Desktop Client and simply connect to a faster system (one that could handle the video in question
) at home over wifi and have your 770 act as a wireless console for a faster computer.

The machine doesn't as it didn't ship with 98SE. However, there is a COA affixed to the front of the 98SE user guide with a product key that matches the one entered in the computer.

There's no installation media provided.

Kinda like my 600X... When it's open, it looks great; keyboard even looks good. Screen is somewhat dim but so are most 755s I see. Shut, there is wear on the paint; probably got ruffled around in storage somewhere. The CD drive is a 20X unit from the 760XD I had. I have the video cables. Unit...

Re: Streaming Video - CPU or GPU limited on 770X with 500Mhz P3?

I interpreted that you claim having hardware acceleration disabled resulted in better performance. That means your CPU is steps ahead than the built in dedicated hardware and that the cpu can handle the overhead better. With that in mind, having a higher performance cpu can help the task. With that ...

Re: Streaming Video - CPU or GPU limited on 770X with 500Mhz P3?

I am pretty sure you have a mix of limitations from both. The 770's graphics hardware was enhanced for MPEG2 and other high end video formats that new in 1997. The Pentium II can only do so much with it's 66mhz bus. If the video works better when you turn hardware acceleration off, then obviously, y...

In 2004, I bought a 380ED from a friend for $60. Used it daily until early 2006 and loved how nice the keyboard was, how durable it was and how well it ran Windows 98SE (since MS still supported it back then).

If it puts things in perspective, I paid $80 for my 600X (specs listed in sig) last week and it was ready to use out of box. This machine will be pulled from my cold, dead hands, btw. ...to make it better, I rummaged through my desk yesterday (it's free of bugs and rats because they wouldn't be able...

My dog's name is Sarge. Had him since 1999 and I'm not quite sure he knows he's this old (never slowed down). I still can't believe he came home in a box. He's black and looks like a really shaggy black lab. 1st dog I've had. Usually, a few times a day, someone in the house will spend several minute...

Re: Original sell price of 600 series ?

I kind of like that the 600X has a higher RAM limit than the T20 (though only by 64mb). As far as formfactor, I find the 570 to bear a closer resemblance to the T20 than I do with the 600.

I think my dog's on drugs

My dog, an 80lb mutt, was on and off having this weird coughing fit. What makes it weird is that when I'm sitting at my computer, he starts coughing up a storm but it I stand up he'll quit coughing and start running around the room as if nothing was wrong with him. He wouldn't start coughing again a...

Re: 600X does not recognize CD-Rom - Help!!

I have a 600X as well. For most ThinkPads made in the 1990s, Windows will register a floppy being present regardless of whether or not there really is one attached to the system. That floppy drive detected is actually the external floppy drive port on the side of the laptop. Try booting from the cd ...

It might not work. I know IBM had some cards that were supported from booting. As far as I know, with third party cards, it's usually a miss but if you already have one, worth trying.

Just noticed in one of your pics that you have what appears to be the padded carry case for an HP 48 series calculator. I used to own a 48SX in high school and used a 48G in college (geeze graphs were roundabout to enter into the 48SX). Best graphing calcs ever made, IMO.

Re: I series 1200 (1161 51U) and ethernet port

I used to own an i1210. Once I opened it up and inside was a printed outline and some other markings indicating a MiniPCI slot like would be found on the 390X or 600X series. Seeing as the i1210 was the dirt-cheapest of the i12xx models, I wouldn't be surprised if nicer spec'd machines did have that...

Re: A great use for an old Thinkpad

Yeah, in this manner, the 380Z really was better to grab than an earlier 380 series. The 380Z and if I'm not mistaken, the 380XD as well, both use MMC-1 cpu modules as opposed to having a chip soldered to the motherboard like earlier 380 models. The fastest MMC-1 module you'll find is the 400mhz Pen...

Re: Most laptops will be 16:9 by 2012…thoughts?

Alot of people, myself included, grew up using 4:3. For me, I have to use it now because wide 16:9 causes my eyes to hurt. I'm pretty sure we would have heard people, in mass, complain if 16:9 was the older format and we were switching to something taller as opposed to wider.

Package arrived 4 business days later and all three laptops look almost new; they must have been babied in their day. Since putting 2000 Pro on it, the 770ED...

My 770ED has a DEVA card, 224mb RAM, Windows 2000 Pro and with all the IBM supplied drivers installed, this computer plays DVDs flawlessly.
