I have been purchasing from PCConnection longer than any other online retailer. They are fair and cooperative. I would just call them and ask them why, as well asking them to take it back if you don't want it.

An embarrasingly stoopid question. But I cannot remember the answer. I have a client whose Thinkpad I have just repaired. She has a thinkpad 600X with Windows 98, which I have just reinstalled. She wants me to put the "Clouds" wallpaper on it, so that she has that pretty set of clouds on a blue sky....

Does it have a working battery? Is the BIOS up to date? Are downloads of all the drivers readily available?

Not an uncommon problem. Install ALL the downloads for your model, including the text files for installation. Then install them exactly as the instructions you require. Floppy drives for the 600 series, particularly the 600X, have the highest failure rate of any Thinkpad component we have experienced in our shop, or in warranty service.
