Re: ThinkpadT61 -- replacing the DVD-RW drive with another model
I came across this old thread and thought I'd add, I had no trouble at all patching and reflashing my UJ-862 as RPC1 with the software from this page: http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=46246 It also worked as well on a UJ-842. With software like the free DVD Region Killer plus a player like ...

Re: Which X40 Wifi Card is better?
I've had better luck just getting and keeping the Ambit/Atheros cards working, in my small experience.

It's just like XP but with some of the fat trimmed.

Re: Has anyone tried an SSD in the X41? *PICS*
I had smooth sailing installing Ubuntu 9.10 to a Kingspec 32GB drive on my X40, but found that Ubuntu with the default ext4 file system has some issues with possibly excessive writes too. I found settings not to record the last file access time (also a simple step in XP, as it turns out), greatly re...

Re: Has anyone tried an SSD in the X41? *PICS*
sjthinkpader, thanks. Maybe with one of these (like the third link) I could run the SSD as a second drive in the X4 dock. This opens some possibilities, anyway.

Re: Has anyone tried an SSD in the X41? *PICS*
I rather carelessly bought one of these Samsung SSDs on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-NEW-Samsung-16GB-SSD-1-8-NAND-FLASH-SLC-SALE_W0QQitemZ360209495111QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCC_Drives_Storage_Internal?hash=item53de28b447 They are 16GB drives, model MCAQE16G8APR-0XA. They were described as 1.8" IDE d...

Re: Has anyone tried an SSD in the X41? *PICS*
I just bought a second X40 from eBay, sans HD, and am thinking of getting a Kingspec 32GB SSD and installing Ubuntu Linux on it directly from CD. Does that sound like a plan? Any known complications or gotchas?

Re: X40 startup issues
Ah, I should have mentioned that I was connecting wirelessly.
I see that when I connect over Ethernet, no error events turn up.
Hmm, when I first reenabled wireless, no events turned up either, until the first restart.

X40 startup issues
Hi Everyone, Here is a sequence of system events at startup I've seen off and on lately, from my X40 running XP SP2. They happen in this order over about one minute: event 4202 The system detected that network adapter \DEVICE\TCPIP_{B03D4EFE-4BFD-46F9-AFEE-DE748DFD5771} was disconnected from the net...

This Apricorn universal hard drive adapter with its associated software works well for me, to clone from the internal drive to a second drive connected by USB. You can install the software or just boot from the CD-ROM. I can't say for sure if there are any issues with the restore partition, since I ...

If I had it to do over, and I had a used X40 in front of me I was thinking of buying, I'd put up some kind of uniform bright background and make a subjective judgment. For instance, Winword full-screen with a new document would work, apart from its narrow borders. And then I would resolve never to u...

andrewstuartallen, I recently got this case on Amazon that the X40 fits into nicely and is really solid and protective but maybe a bit bulky (but it can hold a docking station, AC adapter, cables, etc.) And it was only c. $25. On the other hand, they seem to be out of them now. It is listed as the D...

X40 HPA and service partition
I lately bought an X40 used and want to clone the disk. I think maybe a former owner has removed the HPA and service partition, if they were there, and so I can clone the disk normally with Norton Ghost or EZ Gig II. I've come upon a table of bootup option keys online. On my X40, F11 does nothing, a...
