[Solved] T460 - Mobo connector for trackpad damaged

Hi T'padders I got a 2nd hand T460 that suffered a water accident. The previous owner said that while cleaning the mobo with Isopropyl alcohol it damaged a mobo connector. I opened the T460 today and I see she/he broke the closing mechanism for the trackpad connector, as the pic below shows: https:/...

Absolutely no flickering issues.
May I ask how long you have the kit? Mine originally was not flickering either, it came after few months of usage.

No dice. Cannot find files/asks me if I'm root. Well, in Linux, for most driver or program installations you will need to be root  I'll post in the linux mint dedicated forums and see if I can get help there. Good idea, that's what Forums are for... I guess you're new to Linux, make sure to a...

Re: Help - How to get drivers for Radeon x1400?

Don't the Linux Mint forums have any hints about this?

In case it helps, I have two X32 using Debian and I installed the drivers following this instructions: https://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo

I'm aware my X32 uses a different graphic card (ATI Mobility Radeon 7000) but the link above may help...

I assume your X300 is already maxed out with a good SSD and 8GB RAM, right? Eventually try a lighter Linux Distro, this may speed it up, depending on what your "daily driver tasks" are...

I believe the primary appeal behind the new converter kit is that they do not flicker, as opposed to the earlier versions.
I was of the opinion that only the cable was new (always speaking of the EvanJoo model, not Ja-Vie's one)

Welcome to the forum! Thanks a lot for your feedback, funnily enough a very similar type of mod chip is used for the "s" models, yet none of them flicker (at least until now ) There is a new version of this mod with a longer cable, so that you can place it under the keyboard. But I don't think...

Seems like the flickering happens when the available power is low, or something like that. Well, I'm not totally surprised it flickers. I don't know if you're aware of the history of these adapters, I previously had Ja-Vie's adapter in this very same T430 (distributed here in the forum by RMSMAjest...

Try 8+1 or 8+2 or 8+4 GB, maybe you can figure out the flicker "starting point".
And/or try other RAM brand(s).
Excellent idea... Going back to the table... ;-)

A little of a bummer that 16GB will make the adapter flicker... but the screen is gorgeous and for the current usage 8GB will be enough... And Debian is not so RAM hungry

In my opinion, placing the adapter board behind the LCD is not a good idea because there is the possibility of panel flex. Well, I got my own spacers so backlight bleeding is gone and I don't think my panel flexes. I will check the cable but as soon as I disconnect the AC adapter the screen works p...

I managed to install FreeBSD in my AFFS modded X201, but I think I somehow screwed something up and Gnome is acting a little bit b!tchy... I probably need to re-install.

Which GUI would you recommend? I tried LXDE but it did not work, (or maybe I did something dumb...)

For Free/OpenBSD roughly anything that has an ipw2200 intel wifi onward till machines 2 or 3 years old.
That new? I may give it a try in a T420/T420s probably... I was expecting it would be safer on older hardware and was cleaning up my xx00 gen machines...

As the title says... I got curious about the above mentioned OS's and was wondering which ThinkPad generation would be good to start playing with them? I forgot to add that I always use the net install, it's a tiny image that downloads all packages from the net, so once the install is ready you have up to date system and don't need to run any additional package...

I use Debian in many of my ThinkPads and I never had any issue. Coincidentally, I installed LXDE not so long ago on an old X41 with an IDE SSD and I was positively surprised how well it worked (same on an old Toughbook of similar age that I later gave away).
