Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

Lot of business decisions are not design based, they are more financial and statistical in nature. Designers don't run business units, or make the final decisions, which is either a good or bad thing. I think Lenovo is changing, it has become more willing to open up its management structure to the s...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

The simple answer is that Lenovo's main ThinkPad customers are enterprises, they buy them in thousands per order. Pricing had to remain competitive against HP and Dell's similar offerings. Retro ThinkPad idea came about because of this year's CES. This is a purely community driven project (so your v...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

Remember we need to make this project successful, so we can future editions of the ThinkPad Retro. I wouldn't mind a 3:2 screen with butterfly keyboard in the next generation.

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice

We don't know what Lenovo will do for the future model. As the ThinkPad Retro project was never part of their original product rollout plan. It was only an idea that was known by only a few executives. But now they know there is a strong market reaction to it, they will now pursue it as a business c...

Re: X230: How many displays can it drive?

Natively, it can drive 3 external displays if all of them connects to displayports (so you need the dock with two displayport).

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice

Who gives a sh*t how it looks like? You're not supposed to look at it anyway. You're supposed to look at the screen and type 'blind'. Only with 6-row keyboards is there a continuous need to look at the keyboard to (try) find some misplaced key. As for shoving the keyboard back; you can do the same ...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice

It is not that Lenovo can't source the screen, but rather the cost of these 4:3, 3:2 in the size and spec they wanted cost a lot of money. Using these panel will probably push 30 to 40% of potential buyers out of the market for this laptop. We don't want the retro ThinkPad become another ThinkPad Re...

David Hill is actually a very nice person. Please don't pass judgement on him without actually knowing him in person. Also, if David Hill didn't take the initative in getting rendering and blog done, we will still be looking at the current ThinkPad design.

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice

The back story was when we originally talked about the idea for ThinkPad Retro to David Hill at CES dinner, we talked about a 4:3 machine much like the old T60/T4x machine. But due to the prices and supply of 4:3 IPS screen on market either too small or expensive. Plan B with X30x design was used as...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice

16:10 is available through Macbook displays. And both 4:3 and 16:10 are available from Panasonic. Your point being? George, i don't want to start an argument, because i really respect you. Obviously, Lenovo can get exotic panels made, but that would push the price up into area that not lot of peopl...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice

Hats off to Lenovo for thinking outside the box, but until there's an actual product to buy that I have to decide whether I want to spend the money, there's not much sense in getting over enthused about it. Now, if they'd come out with a sub four pounds 14" IPS SXGA+ ThinkPad with a SSD + HDD, that...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice

if you look closely at the logo on the bezel of that rendering, you will notice T92. Originally this idea was conceived as a T series with 4:3 screen, but apparently the IPS version of high resolution 4:3 are hard to get and very expensive. So the design was changed to resemble more of a X300 with m...

Re: Anyone still collecting ThinkPads?

I have been collecting ThinkPad for nearly 10 years and when I got every one of the Ivy Bridge ThinkPad I sort of gave up, as it was really expensive and I couldn't really keep up with the amount of new machines that Lenovo was releasing. So now I just buy the machines that i need, which are not tha...

Re: ThinkPad design is overrated?

I do not agree with this, because in my opinion, the ThinkLight is a dim light with no real advantage compared to a backlit keyboard. The Thinklights from the T4x to the T430, except for the T61, are very bright. They have the advantage of lighting up the surroundings so you can even see and write ...
