T43p with 2GB of RAM works fine with W7, so the dual-core CPU in T60 will do even better job.

Re: Expresscard SSD on a Thinkpad T43p

I sometimes using PCMCIA SD card reader with SD card inserted and if I hit F12 to see the boot list, I can see the SD card there and I'm able to boot from it. So I would expect that ExpressCard slot with any flash memory formatted as a bootable partition will boot. ExpressCard SSD can be also very w...

Re: Orange epoxy in T40?

Thanks George for your reply. Does it mean that this T40 is more GPU/southbridge failure resistant than older T40 boards without epoxy?

Edit: the board also accepts any WiFi card - no 1802/1804 error appears when a TP-LINK 802.11b/g card is inserted.

Re: Afraid of buying T41?

I have T43p with FlexView LCD and I am very satisfied with this perfect laptop. It is in mint condition, 9cell battery is composed from Panasonic cells so it means it lasts about 3-4 hours with no problems after 6 years. And Windows 7? Well, the windows experience index shows 3.8, very good value fo...

Orange epoxy in T40?

Hi, I have been changing CPU (1.5GHz Banias --> 1.8GHz Dothan) in my mother's T40 last weekend and I've noticed that the mobo has orange epoxy on both problematic chips: GPU and southbridge. GPU had two epoxy points on each chip's side, southbridge had three epoxy points on each side. I always thoug...

Re: Problems with non-thinkpad option drives on T43 thinkpads

Modded T43 and T43p about year ago - no problems at all! In T43 is Samsung HM160HC, in T43p is WD3200BEVE. I am using both daily and haven't experienced any weird behaviors. A one paradox story: when the 'Error 2010' came up in 2005, the forum's member predicted in some thread here that this error w...

Re: Problems with non-thinkpad option drives on T43 thinkpads

I just finished my experiment: to swap electronics board from ATA version of 7K100 to 7K100's SATA mechatronics - it will not work, the hybrid HDD only spins up and nothing happens. After reassembling both 7K100s into theirs original states the both drives works OK, no damage occured during the expe...

ThinkPad 570 (PII-366)

Hello, I am interested to buy an ThinkPad 570 to have a Linux on the go. According to ThinkWiki, it is equipped with miniPCI connector where a Lucent faxmodem sits originally. Is it possible to install a WiFi card there, if I will implement antenna into the body also? I've read some posts here about...

Re: Problems with non-thinkpad option drives on T43 thinkpads

The mechanics could/should very well be the same, but the interface is definitely different. Since you can get that SATA HD cheap, give it a try, you got nothing to lose other than a cheap SATA HD. OK I bought the SATA 7K100 and expecting delivery this week. Before I will swap the electronics board...

AFAIK, installation of Windows XP SP2 or SP3 can run in AHCI mode because the AHCI driver is included there.

Re: Problems with non-thinkpad option drives on T43 thinkpads

Looking for advice please: I can get Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 very cheaply, but it is an SATA model (HTS721010G9SA00) - is it possible to use 7K100 ATA logic board with the 7K100 SATA mechatronics? I would guess the mechatronics is same, logic board on the bottom would be only difference. What do yo...

Re: T40 Hard Drive

Any modern 2.5" 5400rpm ATA drive (WD 320GB, Samsung HM160HC, ...) is faster than fastests 2.5" 7200rpm ATA drives such as Hitachi 7K100 or Seagate 7200.1 because newest HDDs have higher platter density. Buy HM160HC or WD3200BEVE - best ATA choices nowadays.

Re: Problems with non-thinkpad option drives on T43 thinkpads

There were two versions... Original version, when the mod was developed was an windows installer. Newest mod's compilation is distributed as ISO with auto-installer - just burn the ISO to an CD and boot it. I've used both variants of compilation: windows installer on T43p, bootable ISO on T43. No is...

I can play 720p videos from YouTube without chopping and with a very good movie experience on this configuration:

- Pentium M 770 (2.13GHz)
- 2GB of RAM (running in dual channel)
- ATI FireGL V3200 (using Windows Vista driver)
- OS is Windows 7 Professional / Aero turned on

Ok, I slightly edited the first post. You've proved to me that making ThinkPad-specialized distro is wasting of time. Yes, the TPFanControl shows CPU temperature also. Maximum temperatures which I can reach with a heavy use are in interval 80 - 85 deg. of Celsius and includes almost 100% CPU load and 3D gaming. If the laptop is closed (for example in a dock), the temperatures might be even slightly higher. Please d...

Do you use TPFanControl? What are the temperatures in the time near to shutdown? I experienced similar behavior about a year ago - the problem was overheating of the CPU (100 deg. of Celsius was not a problem to reach) which caused whole computer shutdown. New layer of thermal compound (Arctic Silve...

As far as I know, the No-2010 ERROR BIOS mod already contains also No-1802/1803 ERROR patch. So just apply the modded BIOS and then you can use any daughter/Bluetooth card in the CDC slot.
