Re: QUES: Is W5x0/W7x0 "hot docking" supported?
The dock that is compatible with the W510 supports only hot-docking. There is no eject button as on previous docks. I dock and undock mine all the time without any problems, though sometimes there are cryptic messages that don't seem to mean anything.

Re: Switched to Win7 (64bit) -- what backup software to use?
I use Second Copy to synchronize two computers on my local area network, which gives me the ability to use them interchangeably as well as providing a backup. I use iDrive to back up 150GB of my files to the vendor's off-site servers. Both are very simple and robust.

Re: W510's monster 135W AC adapter (55Y9317)
Anyone know if the dimensions and weight of the 135W are accurate? I'm hoping for some Lenovo typos. The photo of the 135W in the tabook makes it look deceptively normal-sized. I have one in-hand and weighed it. Including the cords, the 135w adapter is 1 lb 6oz, or 624 grams. The box is 6" x 2.5" x...

Re: W510 - reprogram the ThinkVantage button
You can change what the ThinkVantage button does modifying the registry. 1. Run REGEDIT 2. Click through to HKLM\SOFTWARE\IBM\TPHOTKEY\8001 3. Change the "File" entry to whatever you want executed when you press the ThinkVantage button You need to use a short file name. Open a Command Shell and the...

Re: ultrabay SATA adapter for w510
I ordered the SATA adapter III for my w510 (43N3412), as this is the only adapter listed in the TA book for this model. It doesn't fit properly: there's a huge gap at the top. It does work, but the gap is going to let in all kinds of dirt and dust... This is very disappointing. Is there another sat...

Re: Thinkpad W510 - Initial observations and testing
Very interesting, thank you! You reported some speed scores that I don't know how to evaluate. Is there a place where I can get some context for them so I know how they compare with other systems?

Re: W510 Full specs?
Now that I can buy a W510 ... anyone know where I can get the full specs? Looking through the site, it looks like it's not fully baked yet. There are features like "Constant Connect" and BlueRay mentioned on the Features page but not on the configuration page. Also, the press release indicated SSDs...

Re: Best Performance, 128SSD or 160gb 7200rpm with turbo?
yup, I have the T500 with 2 Intel 160GBytes MLC SSD. One for the OS and apps, one for the vmware with Oracle database for Enterprise applications. Performance is amazing. You should get the intel drives for database applications since they have by far the best IOPS with small block sizes. Still run...

Re: Best Performance, 128SSD or 160gb 7200rpm with turbo?
In a W500, SSD will be a lot faster. I recently put two 256GB Corsair SSDs in my W500 (one internal, one in the Ultrabay), and the results are stellar. I will be purchasing a new Thinkpad soon, probably a w500, and am interested in this configuration, with Windows 7. Does anyone have experience wit...
