Re: IBM ThinkPad 240

I wouldn't quite consider it a netbook, but it certainly is an early super-mobile laptop, similar to the now X-series. Worth keeping.

Re: Thinkpad T40, T42 + Vista = ?

Yeah, XP and Vista are almost completely different for in the development of Longhorn they started from scratch instead of using Server 2003's kernel as planned. 7 and Vista are very different cosmetically, with better algorithms at the core to make everything faster. But on topic, I pretty much hav...

Re: Zune HD

That's really good. Yeah, the Zune lacks the wonderful ability to make critical pieces of hardware be easily interchangeable... but then again the hardware and software don't really matter all that much, as long as you have a computer with music, the Zune Software and a connector, the Zune HD is per...

Re: Will a 310ED boot from CD-ROM?

Ah that is another issue I forgot to mention: There is the port on the back that allowed connection to an external floppy drive, but it didn't work. I tried the same external floppy drive on a 760ED, and it worked perfectly. It was also able to boot. So, I have no way to boot except from a Hard Driv...

Re: Thinkpad T40, T42 + Vista = ?

Perhaps, but Windows 7 is a lot different in appearance and GUI. I've been using Windows for a long time, so I actually feel a bit more comfortable in Vista. 7 is a bit cooler though, I'm just faster in Vista because I know where everything is. I need to use 7 more... But again I can see that if the...

Re: Zune HD

I've always wanted to get something like that, a "Pocket PC" that could do it all, but I just don't have the money. So I'm stuck with a laptop for work on the go and a Zune 30 for music on the go. I could never buy an Axim; but I haven't looked at them lately. The Zune HD is pretty small compared to...

Re: Will a 310ED boot from CD-ROM?

Ah! Ok, I'll try my lens cleaner CD tonight and see what that does. Hopefully it will fix the problem. But then there's the weird BIOS issue where going into Basic Settings freezes the computer. Perhaps it's the fact that the CMOS battery is dead? Data from the Basic settings is stored in the CMOS i...

Re: Thinkpad T40, T42 + Vista = ?

Thanks! Although I do use Movie Maker quite a bit, that isn't a big issue. I do have a lot of old strips of laptop DDR1(from my old computer) so I'm sure that when I do get a Thinkpad T40(T42) I can fit it with the proper RAM and make sure I get the right one. Also I'll make sure the one I get has t...

Zune HD

I'm getting a Zune HD in a few weeks and i'd like to ask, is anyone out there a fan of Zune? Or would be curious as to what Zune is, and maybe try it out? Zune, for those who don't know, is Microsoft's response to the growing popularity of the device we know as the iPod. The first one(now called the...

Thinkpad T40, T42 + Vista = ?

So, I plan to get a T40 or T42(probably T42) Thinkpad as soon as I finish getting a Zune HD and as soon as I have the money. My Question: Does anyone have a T40 or T42 that runs Vista adequately? And by adequately I mean: -Boots in reasonable time -Mayyyybe is capable of Aero -Opens programs quickly...

Re: Microsoft giveth and Microsoft taketh away...

I think the move to not include the add on software was "bittersweet". They definitely did it because most of the software was criticized as crapware(as mentioned above) and unneccesary to those using Vista. In my opinion, there were definitely programs I could live without, I stopped using Outlook ...

Will a 310ED boot from CD-ROM?

I have a 310ED, which I recently showed on another thread: http://forums.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=82205) ^^Warning! Large Pictures. Slow connections or mobile devices beware. I want to know if these Thinkpads are capable of booting from the CD-ROM. I tried booting from an XP setup disk I h...

Re: IBM Thinkpad 310ED - Back in the day...

I'll look for a battery, both the laptop battery and the CMOS. Until then, I need to figure out what I'm going to do 760-wise. Other than that I'm satisfied with the 310ED. It runs, has few problems, although I still need to see if the CardBus slots work... a Wi-Fi adapter I had didn't light up. I d...

ATI and Intel both have the latest drivers for all graphics hardware products for download on their website. Here's the link for ATI Mobility Radeon X300: http://support.amd.com/us/psearch/Pages/psearch.aspx?type=2.4.2&product=2.4.2.3.4&contentType=GPU+Download+Detail&ostype=&keywords=Radeon&items=2...

Re: What machine do you have Win7 running on

I have the Release Candidate still running on my Toshiba(expires next summer, of course) runs just as fast as my copy of Vista, and boots way faster, perfect for on the go. A friend of mine has 7 running on his Sony Vaio Desktop, was considering Vista but turned it down thinking his PC couldn't hand...

Re: IBM Thinkpad 310ED - Back in the day...

I have a 310ed also, is yours a dualscan LCD or TFT model? It's a Dual-Scan LCD. There seems to be an issue where colored lines stretch the bottom half of the screen vertically. It isn't a huge problem though. Hopefully the one you have has a working CMOS battery, because they are a pain to get to ...

IBM Thinkpad 310ED - Back in the day...

I'm new on this forum, and I didn't quite know where to start, so I decided to show what I have that's Thinkpad. :D First off is really, my only working Thinkpad at the moment: http://medessec.thegineverblock.com/AuxImages/Thinkpads1.JPG This is an IBM Thinkpad 310ED, made in 1997, which has 64 MB R...
