Re: It's crazy the good stuff people throw away! Computer fi

As I said, CRTs are only hard on the eyes, if low refresh rates are used. Sure CRT are not perfect, but their shortcomings has nothing to do with picture quality. A lot of people have never even seen a Trinitron or DiamondTron "aperture grille" monitor, they are much much better then the regular "sh...

No, this is just another example of someone who doesn´t know any better, because there is a USB version of this keyboard: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?hide_menu_area=true&GroupID=460&Code=0B47190 Thats the same link as in the st...

Re: Thinkpad USB Keyboard w TrackPoint gone? Replaced w chic

As long as it is bluetooth, I'll never even consider buying it, no matter how it's made, I HAVE to have cabling, nothing else will do. A bluetooth keyboard or mouse for that matter, can never replace cabled equipment, this is just another example of Lenovo not understanding the purpose of their own ...

Re: Breaking (?) news/rumor: Thinkpad <model removed>!

I think the display format is great too, but they HAD to change the clickpad, it's broken. So that is great, truly. But, the soldered ram points at corner cutting, can we expect a sufficient cooler? what about serviceability? soldered ram suggests that was not much of a concern. The 6 row keyboard i...

Re: New Firefox 29.0 is a bonkers, crap POS!

I remember reading something like "Firefox 29, more customizable then ever". But the FIRST thing I noticed when trying it out, was that I couldn't make my menu bar layout like I used to, things are locked in place. At first I got pretty annoyed with it, there are details I don't like about the new m...

Look for a feature in the CMOS setup called "quick boot" witch you want to enable, or something like "extended memory test", which you want to disable.

Touchscreen on conventional laptops?

Lenovo wants to convince you that business users want touch screens on their non-tablet laptops. Well, I guess using the keyboard isn't as fancy, so the novice might find it amazing for a while, especially if they never bothered with hotkeys. http://blog.lenovo.com/reseller-partners/go-ahead-touch-it

Re: It's crazy the good stuff people throw away! Computer fi

Where would I begin? my home is like a warehouse full of discarded hardware. Let's see, most of my ThinkPads came falling down from above, businesses that didn't need them anymore, or broken ones. I have tons of old mobos, CPU's ram, I think I could build 3-4 desktops out of it, and have plenty of v...

Re: Old IBM gems and memories. (picture warning)

The IBM/Lenovo ThinkVision C220p 22" Monitor must be the last CRT model before people started throwing these things away, rather then buy them. I don't think it's a FD Trinitron tube, but rather a Mitsubishi Diamondtron tube in there (very very similar). Lenovo still has a page dedicated to this mon...

Re: Old IBM gems and memories. (picture warning)

Personally, I'd probably prefer the IBM P200/201/202 though: http://www.compucanjes.com/prod_images/0000013938_1.jpg From what I have seen, the older Trinitron monitors, that are only flat in the vertical plane, have brighter and more vibrant colors. The flat FD Trinitron monitors usually do higher ...

It should fit just fine.

There are two types of palm rests though, those for use with models with a SmartCard slot, and ones for models without.

Both palmrests should fit though.

Re: 3d games over w510

If you do the keyboard mod, the cooler will be able to breathe much better, and temps will god down significantly. Stop worrying too much about idle temps though, what matters most is that the difference between idle and full load temps are not too big. So it might actually be a good idea to use les...

Re: W510 battery annoyance.

Thanks everyone, now I know what to do when I decide to buy a battery. The one I have now still gives me 1-1.5 hours, decent enough, I can tolerate down to 45 minutes. It seems my T43p battery is a Panasonic (92P1091) it still has around 75% of it's capacity. I also have a remarkable A30 battery, it...

Thanks for your reply. Well, just bad luck again it seems, after two faulty coolers, a defective Gobi 2000, odd optical drive behavior and lettering that wore off two keyboards in a row (took less then a year for that to happen to each keyboard), I guess I had to get the worst battery too, but one t...

W510 battery annoyance.

The battery in my W510 has been acting up for a while now, maybe a year or so. The problem is that the battery thinks it still has 100% of it's original capacity, no wear of any kind what so ever. But the reality is different, once battery charge reaches somewhere in the 40's% charge instantly drops...

Re: W510 sees 500 GB hard drive as 320 GB [& RAM upgrade]

And yet Crucial's Web site recommends 4GB DDR3 PC3-12800 modules. It will work with memory faster then DDR3-1066 (PC3-8500), but it will be down clocked to PC8500 speeds. But it seems that there are more differences between memory controllers that can handle 1066MHz and 1333MHz ram, then just the b...

Re: W510 sees 500 GB hard drive as 320 GB [& RAM upgrade]

ThinkWiki may be wrong, other sources indicate that the quad core i7's use the HM55 chipset, while the dual core CPU's use the QM57 chipset. Edit: my W510 has the QM57 chipset. But all of this should be irrelevant since the memory controller, as it is located on the CPU. The answer must be that if a...

Re: W510 sees 500 GB hard drive as 320 GB [& RAM upgrade]

No not really because it's more than CPU + RAM. It's CPU + RAM + Chipset + implementation and keyboard design. This is nothing new and unique to Lenovo and is common on the desktop side too. Look at the T60 as an example, MB will take a T7200 with is a 64 bit CPU but this series can only take max 3...

Re: W510 sees 500 GB hard drive as 320 GB [& RAM upgrade]

Alright, the answer I'll settle for is that it seems that you can't get DDR3-1066 sticks of more then 4GB. Since the first generation dual core i5/i7 CPU's don't support ram faster then that, I'll assume it can't make use of the higher capacity of faster ram modules (like DDR3-1333). I wonder why In...

Re: W510 sees 500 GB hard drive as 320 GB [& RAM upgrade]

Hmm when researching the subject it's difficult to find a straight answer, as I said Intel states that all first generation Core i5/i7 CPU's support the same amount of ram, dual core or not. But people around the web seem to think otherwise, at least when it comes to core i5 CPU's, that those are li...

Re: W510 sees 500 GB hard drive as 320 GB [& RAM upgrade]

The W510 with dual core does NOT have a Core2 Duo CPU, but uses first generation Core i5/i7 CPU's. Officially it supports 8GB of ram max, but Intel states that dual core i5/i7 CPU's take 8GB sticks, so it should work fine with 2x8GB, as the dual core W510 only has two memory slots. According to Leno...
