Re: ThinkPads in the movie Gravity

Back on topic- I can't imagine the A31's good speakers are being put to good use up on the ISS, unless the astronauts have good music to play from a CD on the A31s. It'd be a pretty sweet way to get some music going through a few of the modules. Well in the documentary I watched about the ISS, the ...

Will be buying this after the Bank Holiday weekend: Swissgear GA-7343-06 Cobalt 15.6 Inch Laptop Backpack ready to carry my ThinkPad L540 to school next year. :) I was using a Nike bag as my schoolbag but after less than a year of use the zips have completely given in. Hopeless really. Not impressed...

Re: ThinkPads in the movie Gravity

Mine was old and tired when I got it but it seemed a solid machine. I certainly liked it a lot. Though I remember the speakers not being as good as everybody made them out to be.... Back to ThinkPads in space, Lenovo put another photo of ThinkPads on the ISS on their Twitter page: https://twitter.co...

Will do! I have already started writing a 'user review' (obviously not a professional review) which I will be posting here once I have received the L540 and used it for a month or two.

Looks amazing. My sister bought one a few days ago as well. Base model is £495 GBP here. She upgraded it with the Full HD screen, the fingerprint reader, 720p HD webcam and the 56WH battery, which made it end at around £575GBP. With the slower i3 CPU though. But I, who helped her find the laptop fo...

Re: ThinkPads in the movie Gravity

Yeah I saw a very interesting documentary about the ISS a few weeks ago and you could see all the ThinkPads - even had some footage of the astronauts using them to communicate with their families back on Earth. Funny how that documentary was sponsored by Toshiba (and Intel) and not Lenovo, lol. And ...

Med, what do you want to use this card for? Most cards in that price range are generally a waste of money, unless you can't use onboard video for whatever reason and need a display output.

"Hello, my name is Ray and I'm a Windows XP user!" [a chorus responds] "Hi Ray!" I honestly don't know anybody personally who still uses it as their main OS. Most of the people I know use 7 or 8 or have OS X. Some are still on Vista, but most on 7 or 8. I don't know you personally, either... Linux ...

I guess that's the point. These are machines that I rarely use online. And if I do, I probably won't be doing online banking or PayPal payments with them, and not leave them sit vacant and online for a prolonged period of time. Also having a clean image that can be reapplied should something happen...

Re: Windows XP end of support

Are you saying that people deserve to be bugged about giving not enough money to a company and changing OS just because? For goodness sake, it is a 13 year old OS. Technology has changed a lot in that time and XP has barely changed at all by comparison. You can't expect Microsoft to support stuff f...

Not an option: Why not? Rather than bluntly saying 'no', why not see if there is an option out there? Perhaps look a light version of Linux or something? Though I suppose at the end of the day it only really matters if you are using XP as your primary OS on your primary machines. If you're using it...

I have two main carrying solutions... I'd call them "kits" more though. The first is how I carry around my Clevo D900F- ironically it is carried in my Targus Thinkpad Alpha carrying case, which looks like this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5148PE4ZVVL._AA300_.jpg In the second big pocket, ...

Re: Plan on using XP for a while yet, avoid update KB2934207

You should just upgrade. XP is now like 13 years old - time to move on and use something else whether it be a newer version of Windows or something else. Microsoft can't keep supporting and patching stuff forever. Granted, the nag screen and MSE notifications may be irritating those who don't want t...

I can see why the seller thought it was in bad condition, with missing keys and a TrackPad looking like that. If I were selling it, I'd say it's in bad nick too!

But since you're sorting it, and the rest looks quite good cosmetically, it's going to be a nice laptop. :)

I've got a non-booting A31 here, too. I tried all of the above suggestions, even removed the RAM. When I attach AC power again and power on, all that happens is that the green LEDs flash on, then the green "Z" power LED stays lit. No beeps at all. Nothing. MB problem, it seems like. That's how mine...

Still only got my i5 2500K gaming PC and my little E5300 ASUS desktop.
