Congrats Makai, I'm glad you got yours. Everyday I feel more relieved for not having fallen for a netbook, I guess you'll feel likewise. Archer8, my broken X31 is still at a service place and still don't have it back to compare keyboards side by side, but I am very positive that they are not equal. ...

Re: Please talk me out of it! Help, I'm about to pull the trig..
Seems like everything that I can think of is working now. A phone call to Lenovo's support took care of all as I was gently led to a step-by-step update of the missing drivers. Like good old IBM days. As a bonus I was informed that my x60s warranty is good till August 2011. I was also told that I ca...

Hey Makai and everyone. Let me give a very quick feedback aboyut the x60s that I bought used. Tme notebook looks like new and came in the original Lenovo box. I've been having a hard time getting everything to work since the seller did a hard reformat and some features of the machine were not functi...

Re: Please talk me out of it! Help, I'm about to pull the trig..
Trigger pulled. I was torn between an X61s that seemed quite used with 2gb RAM and an X60s looking almost new, with 3gb, same price. Chose the X60s, which is 2508-A69 and uses the L2400 chip (1.66 ghz). Due Monday evening, I hope it doesn't get too hot or noisy. If anyone's interested I'd be pleased...

compared my X60s vs. my X61s very carefully. I partially disassembled them just for that purpose archer6, I appreciate your sharing your comparison efforts. Were the X60s that you chose the ones with the L2400 chip or of the "T" line? I wonder how much they differ. aquired an X61s without the LAN c...

I understand you Makai, it is a frustrating thing that a same Thinkpad model has a number of different versions (identified by the code numbers like the ones I showed in my previous post). You can look up Tabook for such numbers but often you will not find them because their older machines. Not only...

Re: Anyone successfully installed 8GB ram on X61 or X61T?
Another question: the X61s is sais to be hotter than the X60s and noisier because of a second fan. Couldn't 8gb of RAM increase the heat factor ?

Re: Anyone successfully installed 8GB ram on X61 or X61T?
Hey ds_strauus, isn't there a trick to use as ram-disk the amount of RAM that XP 32 doesn't see ? Incidentally, how do you compare the X60s with the X61s in performance Vs heat/noise. I've read that the newer one isn't perceptively faster and gets hotter and has 2 fans. Is the X60s really more beara...

X60s 2508-A69 3gb RAM 80gb HD 5400
X61s 7666-B44 2gb RAM 120gb HD 5400
Neither have wWan, both have 8-cell battery, same price.
Which of the two would be a better pick for heat/noise ?

Re: Anyone successfully installed 8GB ram on X61 or X61T?
So, how does it work ? Do you just buy two 4gb units and stick in the slots ?
And how do you actually benefit from the extra RAM, can you use them with XP or is it Vista-only ?

Re: Please talk me out of it! Help, I'm about to pull the trig..
So if I understand the second fan in the X61s cannot be turned off making it noisier than the X60s. But OTOH would this imply that, in case no Wwan card is installed, the X61s gets overall better cooling ? As to the battery if mine comes with the 8-cell I will certainly get either the original or th...

Re: Please talk me out of it! Help, I'm about to pull the trig..
How much better is the X61s compared to the X60s in terms of speed and heat ? I am looking at an X61s and an X60s which are priced almost identical, and the X60s seems less used. I understand one has a core 2 duo cpu versus a core duo in the other, but how perceptible would be the performance differ...

I have 2 questions to those who have used an X31 /X32 and nowadays use an X61s or X60s: 1- If you had stayed with the X3x Thinkpad, what do you feel today that you would mostly be missing that you have in the X6xs Thinkpad ? 2- The heat issue : I couldn't bare resting my X31 1.3ghz on my belly or la...

fkelly, archer6, Ken, yak and ssd_thinkpad Many thanks for your precious tips. The impression I get is that experiences may vary among users of a same machine. I understand that this happens sometimes because Lenovo (as did IBM before it) does not spell all the exact parts of a given model (keyboard...

fkelly,
Bom tarde ! And thanks for helping.
Are you sure there's no firewire in the X6x ? Could you please doublecheck on that, cause it might be a deal-braker for me if confirmed. So if I have to add an adapter then I might turn my eyes towards a refurb X200 instead.
Thanks again.

Hey guys, would you mind sharing more details of your experience with X Thinkpads, more specifically in comparison with an X31: Question #1: - How does the keyboard fare in the X6s models compared to the X31? any flex at all ? Thanks too for the a/b card tip. But something crossed my mind: would a USB or cardbus wireless adapter work well in an X31 ? I ask this because I could use the miniPCI slot for a different purpose, such as installing a low-profile 650 Matrox card, that would give the X31 the DVi and TV-out it lacks...

Thanks for patiently clarifying this. Guess I'll just live up with it. 11mbs seems OK for internet while I can hook by RJ-45 whenever I need 100mbs. Though of upgrading to a newer card but I'm expecting a MacBook Pro to handle pro audio so the need might not justify until I feel conviced by a new li...

Please help with X31 wireless configuratiom
Hi all, My X31 (2672-PP4) has an Intel Pro 2100 3B mini PCI wireless card. I have bought a Netgear FWAG114 wireless router that has "tri-mode" compatibility : a,b,g When enabling the Intel 2100 in the X31, I only get 11mbps connectivity, and I can't figure out how to make the two things work in "a" ...

no performance difference between 1.5GB and 2GB. It "can" make a difference although not immediately perceived and not in many cases depending of how intense are the tasks. Example 1 : go on opening simultaneous web pages in Opera, or for that matter launch an entire saved Opera session with thirty...

Is it safe to use a 2.5 HD in a 3.5 external enclosure ?
My X31 has stopped working and I need to access files from its HD. I don't have a 2.5 external case at hand but I do have a few ones for 3.5 HDs and CD drives, and an IDE adaptor for the 2.5 to 3.5 factor. Has anyone done this without problems? I wonder if the enclosure's power would feed voltage in...

Please read my experience on KEYBOARDs, please share yours
Hi everyone, I admit this is a quite recurring topic but believe me I have browsed just about every occurrence since the pre-Lenovo days and it seems it will always remain as a near-myth issue: the different keyboards found in different versions of different Thinkpads. Not only is the keyboard diffe...

Yes the Hitachi 7k is excellent, it gave extra breath to my old T23. Of course the appeal of some extra 40 gigs in the Seagate can't be overlooked especially for things like capturing video and also to make the hidden partition a less space-stealing one. And maybe with a 2nd HD adapter you could hav...

Will a Seagate Momentus 100gb HD work in a T42 ?
These seem to be the laptop 7200rpm drives of larger capacity nowadays. Wonder if they're safe in a Thinkpad ? I'm happy with my e7k60 but wouldn't mind making extra room for big files. Hitachi now has an 80gb version, wonder if anyone has used them.
