Re: No OS on Machine

If I get a Linux Live CD, will this boot on a machine with no OS? /DVD Drive? Yes. Yes, a CD or USB with Linux should be fine. If you have a spare hdd, the easiest fail-safe method would be to install Linux onto a hard drive and then put that into the W701. This avoids possible boot issues with the...

Re: Talk about USPS incompetence and waste

Yes, because USPS should have a dedicated truck for every single package, to deliver it door-to-door in the fastest way possible. :thumbs-UP: That's not effecient. Think of all of the unused space in the delivery trucks. Better is to wait until there is a full truck of packages going from the NYC d...

Re: Extracting video bios blob from bios update

I have coreboot installed on my T430s. Recently, I upgraded my screen using the WQHD upgrade kit. Now, I need to change the video initialization from native to vga bios option rom. This needs a binary blob from the original bios (see https://www.coreboot.org/VGA_support#How_to_retrieve_a_good_video...

Firefox 58 is fast

I'm testing firefox 58 on an L2400 x60s (Debian 8) and it is much faster than firefox 52, and uses less cpu cycles. A case in point, it loads ebay.com and can scroll without any lag. Firefox 52 can't do that. The newer version makes use of both cores and is more effecient in dealing with javascript....

Re: X61t - Tablet pen registers as right click in Linux Mint while in tablet mode?

I'm currently setting up an x61t to use as an art station, but whenever I clip the tablet into tablet mode, the pen no longer registers as a left click, but a right click, when I press it on the screen. This makes using it as a tablet very difficult, and I'm not sure what's causing the problem. Doe...

There are ways to recover posts. Easiest is with a browser plugin. edit: I tested the following on my sites and it worked. I'm not sure if it'd work here, with this site's javascript. It recognized the drive as an unallocated 531GB space when it is a partitioned 340MB drive. It is not clear which OS, or which program, you tried this on. Does the program/OS understand FAT16? You could try a live linux CD which includes Gparted: https://gparted.org/ to see what sort of size it rep...

Are you sure it was a x200s? No, I am not sure. I have one of the machines here, and it is an x200. My mistake. From the link you posted, the x200s looks much more complicated - and the chip is completly different from the x200 I flashed. edit: check around the board, you may find other pads which ...

Re: x200s every time gets stuck on reboot

I do have an external flasher, I wanted to use me_cleaner first, and then eventually flash libreboot. But I failed to read the bios chip using a pomona clip... The bios chip is very thin. I flashed a few x200s and do not remember the chip being 'thin'. It was a very easy machine to flash, as I only...

Re: Which processor (i7 7500 vs i7 7600) should I choose?

Given that you're not stressing the CPU much at all, I'd buy whatever is cheaper, which would be the i7-7500u in this case. Why a new x1 carbon? Used x1carbon from 2014 are 230 GBP on ebay.co.uk. When watching movies and browsing the web you could hardly tell the difference between that machine and...

I have a LED backlight in my x22 (Oct 2002) and also in my x60 (Jan 2006).

You can put a LED backlight in your T61p screen.

You could sell it here:

Or, you could replace the CPU with a P9600 or T9400. If you are very adventurous you can replace it with a Q9100.

Good luck w/this. I spent way too much time trying to do this w/an X61 a few months ago. Finally kludged it by installing 32-bit WinXP then using the DOS exe. it's neither FireWire nor DP (T400 has no DP). It's broken USB port, without its part in the middle.
