Re: linux freezing on x61

If you run out of ram and have no swap space set up you can provoke similar behavior by doing something ram-intensive. (My x21 was crashing in this way the other day when watching youtube videos in a browser - they did run in smtube/mplayer at 360p).

Re: X61 battery doesn't charge

I had a similar problem on my old x61s. The battery just would not charge when using Ubuntu. However, I booted back into the original Windows XP and discovered that I had the battery set to charge only when below 5%. I had this done from the utility provided by IBM. After I changed that setting, bo...

Re: WTB: 6x red trackpoint caps

Increase the sensitivity and speed in the control panel so you don't have to exert as much effort. With lighter input you should be able to cure your pain. That's a nice improvement, thanks. I also swapped the dome-shaped hardened cap off of my x61s and replaced it with something flater and softer ...

Thanks, I ordered 10 of the soft rim caps. Btw, after using the trackpoint for a week my right arm is in pain. Feels like I've gotten 'tennis elbow' and the right side of my right wrist is also irritated. Am I using the trackpoint incorrectly, or is there simply more strain on one's arm using the tr...

ORDERED: 6x red trackpoint caps

I just started using the trackpoint only to realize many of my machines are either missing their trackpoint caps or the rubber's dry rotted (dry rotten?).

I'm not sure which style of nub is useful, so a smattering of types would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: can not see real WHITE in x-61

On CCFL displays, colors change visibly over time as the backlight ages. You should replace the bulb with a new one and calibrate your display. Calibration is the only way for any display to show (mostly) accurate colors. Thanks 600X! I borrowed a usb device, about the size of a computer mouse, and...

Re: 4965AG WiFi Slow On Public WiFi

I just walked around my place measuring signal strength on my x61s's Intel 5100 AGN. At the place where I usually work signal was 49dBm. Moving 2 steps to the left, which put a wall and a metal door frame between the x61s and the wifi router, signal dropped to 61dBm! As realblackstuff pointed out, r...

Re: Thinkpad X61 still relevant?

The CPU and SSD combo is a good upgrade for the X61 and for most things it works fine in 2015, apart from gaming or photoshop etc. Even video works well once a cheap Broadcom BCM70015 PCI-e card is installed, and leaves your CPU with less to do. No, the biggest issue for using the X61 in my case is...

I don't know smtube, but it looks to me like you don't actually stream the video when you use smtube - you use smtube to download it, and then you play it using smplayer. Is that right? If so, then that's the same as what I'm doing: I download youtube videos as MP4's first, using an addon, and then...

Yes, it was left unused for more than a month.

I'm not sure whether it was left with a "charge of 0%", as it depends how you're defining 0%.
The cells themselves had charges of 3.81V.

You can make a caddy, for any machine, with a piece of plastic and a piece of rubber.
The packaging from ice cream or sliced cheese works and an inner tube from a bicycle tire also works.
Grab a drill and scissors and five minuets later you'll have a caddy.

Powertop, in the rightmost section/tab,

Code: Select all

~$ iwconfig
or

Code: Select all

~$ ifconfig
(hopefully) shows you the names of your network adapters.
Take the name of your wifi device and put it in inplace of 'wlan4' in the following command:

The command you want (may be)

Code: Select all

iw dev wlan4 set power_save off

Re: Battery drains too fast on X240 Thinkpad RHEL 6.5 platform

If your cpu is always running at it's max frequency that can eat away at your battery.
A 'cpu governor' needs to be running.

Check the files in these directories:
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq

Paths may be different on RHEL.
