Re: I want to put an NVMe ssd into my x60s

Is it really so much more performance over a standard SATA SSD to be worth the extra complexity and/or price? That's what I'm trying to figure out. Latency of my current drive is 0.180ms. Reported latency of 'Samsung 850 EVO M.2' is 5x lower, 0.0324ms (source: http://www.storagereview.com/samsung_8...

I want to put an NVMe ssd into my x60s

It's a new year and I'd like to upgrade my x60s daily driver, this year with a new hard drive. Throughput is capped at Sata I speeds but I guess I could get additional performance using a drive with lower latency. Am trying to figure out what my SSD upgrade options are. Perhaps something like this t...

Could you give three examples of what 'accelerated by about 50%' could be?

My hunch is you could easily get 50% improvement by either tweaking your software or using different software.

Is Middleton bios installed?

Re: Advice on buying a Thinkpad X60 in 2018

The x61 and x60 are, basically, the same physical machine. There are very minor physical differences between them. The x61 is faster and can accept more ram. Motherboards from one can be used in the other. Alternatively, is it possible to change the motherboard entirely in order to get the T7200? Ye...

No, you don't. Just find a piece of black plastic, a pair of scissors and some double-sided tape.

If I got a hold of an affs screen and a convert cable for it, is that all I'd need to upgrade the display myself? Or would that require the same hacking as retrofitting an old sxga or ips display into it? Same hacking, of which there's a pictorial on the German thinkwiki site: http://thinkwiki.de/(...

Do you have the correct heat sink? The heat sink for the nvidia board has 3 heat pipes.

If you have an external flasher, flash libreboot. That will solve the ME errors.

Yes, it is straight forward. Follow the instructions, to the letter. Be patient and gentle.

The x61 screen is simple. The tablet screens are a hassle.

If you find you don't have the right sized screw drivers, best to stop and get the correct size.

Got a fan error on the X60s, very noisy also. If you go the Linux route, install 'libreboot' on the machine -- then you won't get the ran error any more. You can even run it with the fan disconnected. You want a distribution build on top of Debian. This gives you access to the largest pool of suppo...

I'm a Luddite. My work machine is a T400, which is basically the same machine as your husband's R500.
