Re: New X60s project!

And, jumping in with an update! I did the X61s motherboard swap last night. It looks like while this board has the SIM card slot next to the RAM there was no provision for the second fan like I thought. However, the speaker connector stands up straight on the X61s board versus laying flat on the X6...

Re: WTB: X24 in working or near working condition, will consider X22-23

Yes, PATA SSD's do indeed exist. The better option would be to get an IDE to mSATA adapter and mSATA SSD. That way it would be usable in another machine should the OP wish. As to why he wants an X24. He wants one, does it really matter why? If he wants one and is willing to purchase it from a forum...

Re: WTB: X24 in working or near working condition, will consider X22-23

If the OP is serious, I may be able to offer him a X24 + X23 + X21 in exchange for a X61. I would have to confirm the state of these systems, etc, since they are in storage. I may be able to salvage one battery (there are multiple batteries, but how many are functional at this point, perhaps one, wh...

Re: WTB: X24 in working or near working condition, will consider X22-23

No idea why you would be interested in a X24. What benefit is it to you? I'm lost at the logic. I had a ton of X20-X24, but maintaining them is useless as the components are expensive and become more costly as time goes on. Less for more cost. I'm lost at your point about SSD. Did they ever make PAT...

Re: X1 2nd generation replacing clickpad

I received the part today and did a swap in. It worked out nice and no regrets doing the mod. For me, this is what was involved: 0) Electric shock or system booting up when your playing with its internals is never good. I went into the Bios, Power, disable battery until next AC connect. 1) I needed ...

Re: Is the x120e considered a "real" ThinkPad? and the laptop is slow, how to speed up?

I am already running windows 7 x64 and haave 4gb ram and a 64gb ssd in there. What are the prices for your x100e? See my PM to you for info about the x100e and others. To make it faster, look at upgrading the memory to 8Gb. Not much else you can do besides from keeping your Windows clean. Uninstall...

I thought I saw some on aliexpress when I was shopping around for converts for old 20v to X1. Can't seem to find them now.

You might want to check ebay and alixpress for converters from old 20v. Best bet at finding a right-angle version.

Thx for the suggestion. I think Lenovo needs to update their README. I did finally get this thing to work. For anyone hav...

Issue with Bootable BIOS CD

I tried downloading and using the Bootable BIOS CD (1.20 - gruj16us.iso). I've tried downloading it twice, tried to burn the DVD 4 times (using growisofs, Brasero, wodim) and using windows in a vmware, across two different DVD burners. Each time the disc burns successfully but it is unbootable eithe...

Re: Can I make an external USB SSD boot drive?

Windows will only boot on a removable drive (USB) if it is installed using Windows-To-Go. Taking a Windows 7 install and trying to boot it off USB will not work. Edit: I should have noted I actually tried to take the drive from internal and boot off external through a USB setup. It would restart the...

Re: X140e Hard Drive Replacement Thickness?

Make sure the SSD is a "low profile" or a 7mm. I wanted to use an older (but still in 3 year warranty, so not "that" old) SSD. It was the thicker kind. I ended up taking the chance, voiding the warranty, and removing the casing. Constructed a casing for it that was under 7mm. The insides on most of ...

Re: 'Incomplete' Lenovo X131e

As was pointed out, the service isn't necessarily affecting your ability to fix these things. The key is whether you have proper access to the BIOS. Is the super user password set? and do you have that password? Things like the CTRL + FN is a function in the BIOS to switch them around. If the BIOS s...

Re: 'Incomplete' Lenovo X131e

You know how the saying goes, always tackle the obvious first. I think your issue is a BIOS one. I'm 99.99% certain that these devices are appearing missing because the previous user may have had them disabled. Hopefully your BIOS is not locked. Perhaps it was used by a school and they didn't want s...

Re: speeding up x61

Talking of RAM, I'm finding that W7x64 deals a lot better with the 3Gb on my X61T than XP that was quickly down to its last 300Mb and increasing the paging file, which meant trouble with my 500Gb Seagate HD. I haven't reinstalled the utility (RamCleaner I think) that gave me that info but there hav...

Re: Putting W520 SSD into X130e?

Historically speaking across Win 2000, Win XP, Win Vista, and Win 7 recovery disks for Thinkpads, the image once installed on a hard drive can't see to be transplanted to a different model type. You go in an endless bluescreen, recovery, etc hell that never goes away. Never saw this when moving a st...

Imagine my shock when I opened it up and tried to slide in my OCZ Vertex 3 SSD. It wouldn't fit. Then I noticed the height of the 500GB drive was lower than every other drive I've ever used. Realized after some googling there is a new "low profile" drive that is 7mm. Even on all my recent machines (...

Have you guys read the thread? If you want to use a Mini PCI-e SSD, you'll have to use them in the 2.5" SATA slot or solder the i/o from it to the pci-e, and when you do that, then what is the point? The drives in this form factor are slower and more expensive.
