right click the desktop background -> personalize, in the bottom left of that window click Display, and you can increase the DPI there. also the video card settings are all in the nvidia control panel. i remember you used to be able to add custom resolutions, not sure if you can remove the default o...

Re: Resolution keeps resetting
you could increase the DPI or try to change the resolution in the video card settings (not the default windows 7 screen resolution settings). if there is an option to delete resolutions in the video card settings you could try that too.

try unplugging the bluetooth cable from the motherboard. oddly enough, when I did that with an X61 tablet, it started working fine.

Re: Blu Ray drive...
I would ask what you're going to use it for? If it's for backups you might be better off just getting an external hard drive. You could probably buy three or four of those for the cost of the blu-ray drive. Plus the discs are a bit expensive. If it's to watch blu-rays keep in mind you'll have to bu...

Re: X6x vs X6T: Size, weight and carryability?
I disagree. It adds lots of noise to the screen, so much that I actually prefer low-end TN screens. For these two reasons, get the X61 tablet only if you need tablet functionality. Don't get it just for the screen. i've had 3 SXGA+ X61 tablets, two had no screen protector and were very grainy. the ...

Re: 5200mAh Battery for X61 Tablet...?
looks just like the one I got. you'll get used to it, it's not too bad and lasts just as long as the genuine battery. mine now has 25 cycles (so probably 50+ in reality because it can't count), and the full charge capacity went up from 60.99 Wh to 62.11 Wh. if you mean the time on the battery meter ...

I think it means 'You may safely remove the DVD Drive from the computer', since it's an ultrabay.killer wrote:As far as I can tell, the answer is yes.
'Safely remove hardware' means 'You may safely remove the DVD from its drive'. It would pay these computer people to use clear, unequivocal English.

Re: Error 2100: HDD0 (HardDisk Drive) initialization error (2)?
I've gotten this error (or a similar one, can't remember off the top of my head) on several T61s, because the hard drive was not inserted with rails. it also gave the same error with an SSD, and all drives were working properly. so while it may be obvious, and possibly covered already, be sure the d...

if you want you can probably advertise this as a tx2500 (which had ati graphics and a newer AMD platform). the original tx2000 series had the nvidia graphics that had a lot of failures.

Re: Hard disk service life
I believe that's mainly a manufacturer's issue, since fujitsu doesn't (or didn't) do their power-on time count in hours while nearly every other hard drive manufacturer does. from the drives i've used (maxtor/seagate/western digital/samsung/hitachi) they all use pretty much the same parameters. the ...

What App/ Tool/ Utility can give a good bearing of that? HD Tune's "Health" tab should tell you everything. it's free (there's also a paid version). I disable spin-downs on all of my drives. Re: Hard disk service life
I had a z61t with a seagate 100GB drive, which had 6.6 million load/unload cycles (rated for 600k). i would say a better indicator of whether your drive is going bad or not is the reallocated sector count.

the same model in line with yours would be the W520. yours would run windows 7 perfectly fine, it's machines older than a pentium M where it may have issues.
the last 17" thinkpad was the W701.
once the "extended support" ends for XP in 2014, it'll probably be close to disappearing.

Re: T61 Processor Upgrade from T7300 to T9300 Penryn Possible?
personally, i'd go after a T400 since that'll guarantee you penryn compatibility, and you wouldn't have to be concerned about the whole nvidia thing. the memory for the T400 is also a lot cheaper (~$40 USD or less for 8GB).

T61 no power, no lights
I have a T61 7663-13U which it worked fine when i got it a few days ago, and i was able to install windows without a problem. after powering it on/off a few times and unplugging it, it no longer receives any power at all whether on battery, AC, or both. I tried the "hold the power button down" and "...

The battery will be "loose" without the tabs from what I've read. I haven't gotten to experience that myself but the battery should still lock in.

it is normal, and you can check when the active protection system parks the hard drive heads (doesn't stop spinning though) if you have the icon in your tray. play the video, and move your laptop. the play icon should change to a pause icon. videos are only buffered for a very short time and are pla...

Re: 5200mAh Battery for X61 Tablet...?
someone on here said the larger size is because there are no cells in the rectangular areas of the battery. that sounds right since that part of the battery feels empty. My cycle count is now 21 after ~2 more weeks, so it's definitely not counting correctly. also the battery should be rated at 4400 ...

I've been using windows 7 ultimate x64 for the past 2 months on an x61 tablet, and I've had almost no issues. the hard drive has been cloned multiple times, and the install is from my hp touchsmart (because it's too much work to take time and reinstall all of my stuff, oops). install date is 2/17/20...

Thank you very much for the info!
also, does a T60/R60 14.1" widescreen exist? if so, wouldn't that use the same battery as the T61/R61/T400/R400 14.1" widescreen?

Related (or maybe not): I was going to hold off on swapping out the one factory stick of 4GB RAM with the new 4 x 4GB @1600 until after I create the recovery media. Is this the recommended sequence? you can swap out the ram whenever you want. if you just want to get it out of the way, do it now. it...
