Re: Why I love Thinkpads

Try this one: https://packages.debian.org/jessie/all/firmware-iwlwifi/download (you'll need to choose the site where you want to download it) Thank you for this. Worked like a charm. I think I have realized that I am past the point of wanting to feel the pain. Kind of just want stuff to work now. M...

Re: Why I love Thinkpads

As far as skipping things in Architect, I kept missing steps like Create User Account or Setup Display Manager. I chalk it up to not paying attention. The problem is that after a few mess-ups, I had to keep wiping the entire drive otherwise it said I had no room for the next run through. I blame mys...

Re: Why I love Thinkpads

Arch linux is the way to go if you want the fastest, leanest, up to date system. The beginner's guide is very useful. Other than that, Linux Mint Debian edition has been the only other distro (crunchbang was another, but is unsupported now) that offered similar performance, apps, usability, and fea...

Why I love Thinkpads (ease of use and Linux compatibility)

So I got my new/old Thinkpad in the mail today. X200 with no hard drive. Within minutes, I was testing it with Debian. Darn drivers though. Wifi never works. I tried installing Arch with Architect, but I kept skipping steps and having to do do-overs. I was avoiding running Ubuntu because I want ligh...

I am unsure of that answer. I do know that I also have an adapter that lengthens the battery for another model (it came with the OEM Lenovo Battery. FRU:92p1227

FS (USA): Box of Thinkpad X60 Stuff and 120GB SSD

Re: FS (USA): X60 and A31p RAM and X60 Battery (prices adjusted)

Just sold off the last of my old dismantled PC. According to my spreadsheet, even with all of the stuff I bought to go with my x60, I am out $3 from my actual bank account. The rest came from junk in the closet :). So.... Make an offer for some of the stuff I have for sale. If it is reasonable, chan...

Re: New X60 notebook owner...

S, Thanks for the quick reply. I was negligent in asking you why you selected that model over others such as the Intel SSDs. DId you get a 1.8 or 2.5? No problems with the install? Do you mind if I ask how much? Is your X60 baby running smooth? Any further advice for someone about to do the same? T...

Re: New X60 notebook owner...

Since "tricking out" my X60, I have had very few issues. Mainly, the mouse and keyboard plugged into my dock do not work after resuming from suspend. But... this thing boots Debian so fast from SSD, that I don't mind shutting down!! After initially thinking I needed a modded BIOS, I have decided tha...

Re: Positive feedback for FAIR Traders

I recently sold TuuS an A31P w/ some known issues. From his calling dibs at quite an early moment to his prompt payment, he was a pleasure to deal with!

I also purchased a battery from Thinkpadlover. Shipped promptly and arrived just as described!

Would do business again!

I fear that it was this Apple Keyboard that may have been causing my "Stuck Key" errors w/ my dock. That and the fact that there is no Insert key is infuriating since I seemingly use Insert a lot!

X60 and X6 Dock Issues?

So I was hit with the dreaded "Stuck Key Error" last night. When researching it, I noticed that a common question people asked was, "Are you using a dock?" From there, the conversation derails, so I never know WHY they are asking this :) Is there a known issue where a dock creates the Stuck Key Erro...

If I recall correctly The VGA driver did solve this very issue for me. If you are not just testing and are doing a full install, the alternative install disk is usually the way to go with older hardware.

If you run Linux or are able to boot into a Live Linux distro, you can utilize Bluefish which is a great and very easy to use HTML editor with a "What You See Is What You Get" WYSIWYG interface.

Re: Removal of unnecessary devices?

Well, I don't have an answer for your main question, but there's no need to reinstall Debian just to enable AHCI. Linux doesn't freak out nearly as much as Windows. Nice! This is very good to hear. I actually want to re-install to get my footprint down as well. I was only half paying atte...
