T61 and the Advanced Dock

Fellow ThinkPadders, My son has a T61 that he uses for school and light gaming. Mostly League of Legends. When we hook it up to his 19" Acer Monitor (1440x900) LoL will not run on the monitor. I am assuming it is because the Intel graphics cannot push the added resolution within the game. My questio...

Using a 170w Power Supply for other ThinkPads????

Fellow ThinkPadders, I have a question as it pertains to power supplies. I now have a work issued W520 that requires a 170w power supply. I also have in my fleet a T420, T61, X61 and a X61s. I typically just keep a 90w PS out to charge whichever laptop I am using. Is it safe for me to use the 170w P...

Re: Best energy saver: Hard disk? SSD?

+1 for the 840 series. I think I saw the SSD comparison on Tom's Hardware. I do not recall the exact numbers but the 840 had a fraction of the power draw that the others had.
I currently run an intel 330 series and there is zero seat of the pants difference in battery life over my old WD 640gb.

Thanks rkawakami,

I did both and I think I'll pass. Just having a hard time swallowing $115-$140 on eBay for a genuine new in the box unit.

Thanks again.

Express Card SSD in x61s ????

Hi all,

I was wondering if any of you more experienced thinkpadders know if this will work as an extra drive in my x61s?

Re: T60 Won't work in dock since I switched to SSD

@craigmontHunter yes I do have the middleton bios update installed. I do not have the toolbox. I imagine it is something I can download and will have to run the tool from the Windows side? Does anyone know how this will affect the Ubuntu side of my drive?

Thanks

@GBCrabill I'll check when I get home on the exact model of Intel SSD.

@CeeDee, I did a clean install of Win8 RP then upgraded to full version, then dual booted Ubuntu 12.04

Re: T60 Won't work in dock since I switched to SSD

CeeDee, I'm tagging along for this one. You are not alone with this issue. Until now I thought I was crazy. I have an X61s with a Intel 120gb SSD dual booted between Win8 and Ubuntu 12.04 and I have the same issue regardless of which OS I boot into. If I cold boot while docked it hangs just past the...

Re: worth putting Win8 on T61?

I have Win8 on my daughters T43p and both of my x61's. I like it a lot, but then I am one of the few who like the "Metro" interface. It feels at least as snappy as Win7. It does prefer 4gb ram. I tried it with 2gb and it was a bit slower to respond. Give it a whirl. Edit: FYI. Win8 is fast and flawl...

Re: Latest compatible OS for x61, x60, and x60s

For my two cents. I am running Win8 on my x61 2.0ghz with 4gb ram and a WD 640gb 5400. Runs great! My x61s dual boot Win8 and Ubuntu 12.04 1.6ghz with 2gb ram and a Intel 128 SSD is my favorite setup, boot times are very fast. I ram Mint for some time and it performed better, but I love Unity. Eithe...

When I bought the x61s it only had 2gb of Ram. I have not added the 4gb to it.
I'll try it tonight and report back. I do not foresee any issues though.

Re: Help me salvage the last 'good' thinkpad

I have an x61s (1.6ghz, 2gb Ram) with an Intel 330 SSD. It is dual booting Win8 and Ubuntu 12.04.
It out performs in every way my Win8 X61 (2.0ghz, 4gb Ram) with a WD 640gb 5400rpm.
The single best thing I ever did to a laptop for performance.

Go forth to SSD land and rejoice!

I also had good lucky with the same seller that X-Man dealt with. Essentially the same experience too. RBS did a fan swap along with the SATA mod on my daughters T43p and after a day it is very cool and quiet.

Re: Best Distro for Lenovo x61s (ssd & 2gb ram)

Yea, that was my intention was to run it standalone. Now I just successfully got it installed dual boot with Win8 RP and Ubuntu 12.10.
I'll run it a bit and see. if it performs any different but most likely I'll just wipe it all down and run Mint Maya.
