WTB: T60 - UK!

I'm looking for a T60 for a friend, they're wanting to spend less than £100 inc postage. Bare-bones would be ideal and it doesn't really have to be a T60, it could be an R60, Z61, T61 or anything from the same era really. I'd like the avoid XGA resolution but if the price is right I'll go for it. Sh...

Don't know what it's like in Sweden but my Father used Garmin Software on his Atom netbook for years.

Edit: Nevermind, it seems to have been discontinued...

Re: YouTube on older thinkpads

YouTube in older laptops is a bit useless due to flash.

If you use Firefox you can download an add on called "Low quality Flash" which might help but will make it very pixelated!

Re: SSD Upgrade (Large Pics)

Excellent write-up, but I have an objection on this. Using a Kingston HyperX on a T500 AHCI gave me BSODs, freezing laptop and generally didn't work at all. With compatibility mode, everything runs smoothly and TRIM is enabled. I had the same issues on the T60, will there be no trim at all if AHCI ...

Re: SSD Upgrade (Large Pics)

Nice writeup A31 , I've always just gone for the cheapest SSD I can find in the capacity that I want instead of focusing on their speed, I figured which ever I choose it's going to be a heck of a lot faster than any 5400rpm drive it replaces. Once you use exclusively SSDs mechanical drives seem so L...

Re: T61 vs T400

T400 takes DDR3 RAM so maxing out the RAM is much cheaper.

I ended up ordering from eBay, the seller has promised that it is FULLY working. I know eBay is risky but I'm just crossing my fingers!

Re: RAM memory uprgade

I've never done so myself but I can't see any reason why it would't work...

Unless you're running VM's or doing *very* memory intensive work then 4GB would be enough. I'm running 4GB in my T61 and Ubuntu, even with around 8 chrome tabs and thunderbird open, doesn't really ever use above 2.5GB.

Re: RAM memory uprgade

PC2-5300 677Mhz should work fine and I think it is the fastest that DDR2 will run at in T61's so bumping up to 800Mhz won't make any difference.

Re: RAM memory uprgade

Oh yeah, my apologies, I didn't read through your specs. That CPU is 64bit capable so you should be okay running Ubuntu 64bit.

If you're looking to speed up general usage, 4GB RAM and an SSD would be a much more noticeable upgrade.

Re: RAM memory uprgade

I believe that you can put 8GB of RAM in any T61, although you may need to update the bios first.

As for the 3g modem, from what I know they weren't offered as standard on any models so there won't be any antennas.

WTB: T4x Motherboard

I'm looking for a T4x motherboard (preferably 42p or t43) to replace one that had a recent southbridge failure.

Needs to be posted to the UK, but will be happy to pay for reasonable postage from elsewhere.

Thanks,
Ross

Re: curser stops working

When you say your cursor stops working, does this mean with the inbuilt track point only, or with an external mouse aswell?

Are you able to bring up the Ctrl-Alt-Delete menu, or is the system completely frozen?

Thinkpad 20th Anniversary Wallpapers

Does anyone know where I can find the 20th Anniversary wallpapers that were uploaded my Lenovo a while ago? That section of their Flickr page is now "Private"

I downloaded some at the time but never thought to download any 1600x1200 ones, and I'm in need of them for my new A31p!

Thanks,
Ross

Thank you for the recommendation of Nexus 4. I ordered one today. Much cheaper than a Samsung Galaxy S3. The HTC Desire I have been using strains my eyes. That can go on eBay when the Nexus turns up. ... and to think that a few years ago all I needed was a PAYG phone. :D Excellent choice! I'd recom...

Re: Any recommendations for a bluetooth mouse?

Hello, I have been enjoying my thinkpad t60 for a while, but I realize that if i am going to be sitting for a while it would be more efficient to have a standard mouse to use. I would like to take advantage of the integrated bluetooth of the t60 and buy one which can connect with it. To add another...
