Re: The Touchpadless Three

I have to agree that ThinkPads look much more attractive without touchpads but I couldn't do without one in my main machine, two finger scrolling on these touchpads just feels so natural (Well, under Linux anyway, I've never managed to get two finger scrolling working quite right under windows).

Re: who's moved on from T43 / T42? recommendations please

I'd go for a T60 or T61, they're nice dual core machines with plenty of power for day to day stuff.

Re: T42 to T60 SSD swap

Sorry for the confusion, I'm using a SATA SSD in an ultrabay caddy. I posted a reply yesterday clarifying this but the forum was taking ages to load for me so it obviously didn't go through. Looks like I'll be doing a full reinstall then, with it not being my machine I don't want to risk issues furt...

Oh well, thanks for the advice guys. I was trying to avoid a reinstall as it's not my machine, but it looks like it's going to have to be.

T42 to T60 SSD swap

I currently have a T42 running windows 7 on an SSD in the ultrabay. I've recently purchased a T60 to replace it and wondered if I would be able to just swap the SSD straight into the T60 and install the new drivers? Would I have any issues?

Thanks,
Ross

Re: Thinkpad you've never had?

I'd love a QXGA T60, don't quite know whether I'd be able to manage with the resolution, but it'd be great to try out!

Thinkpad 701C - UK!

I didn't really know where to put this, I didn't know if the market place was the right place if I wasn't the one selling Back to the point, I was just scrolling through ebay when I stumbled upon this, UK and collection only but has bid of £10 at the moment! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IBM-ThinkPad-70...

Re: T61 and the Advanced Dock

I'm going out on a bit of a whim here but does it behave like this when the external monitor is the only one? i.e. internal laptop display disabled? Anyway a video card in the advanced dock should improve the performance of the game as Intel graphics aren't really renowned for their gaming performan...

I believe that the only way to do this is to replace the hinges. (Please correct me if I'm wrong anyone)

Was I right to put "Large Pics" in the title? Wow, a very nice laptop you have there!

I'm hoping to buy a nice shiny new Thinkpad when I go to Uni (hopefully!) next year (T440?), I'm actually looking forward to using a chicklet keyboard! Until then I'm sticking with my T61.

Re: cpu: t7700 vs. t9300

I've just upgraded from a T7300 to a T9300 C2D it runs so much cooler! My fan literally isn't on at all, even watching 1080p youtube (Around 70% CPU)! I haven't noticed any changes in battery life as I've only had it in the laptop for a few hours but the estimation Ubuntu gives me seems to have gone...

Re: t30 not sure what the issue is...

I had A similar issue with a T42 that had coffee spilt on it, it was left for around a month as I presumed it was totally dead. After that I fired it up as a last attempt and it's worked perfect ever since!

This isn't really a solution but more of a "don't give up hope!" it may come back to life!

Re: T30 memory slot problem

@fleming164: Usually it's the 3-4 pins on either side of the slot, rarely ones in the middle, like yours. Yeah, turned out to be debris on those pins, it was the ones at the side of the DIMM slot. I successfully re-flowed the pins and it worked wonderfully, until I decided to put a 2.4Ghz P4-M in. ...

Re: Middleton Bios Issue

Well I would put my laptop into suspend (S3 I think?) and then plug into the power outlet. I would leave it for around half an hour, if I then unplugged and tried to wake the laptop the error would pop up. (It seemed to be bios message) If I woke the laptop while plugged in the error would never occ...

Re: Middleton Bios Issue

Problem solved I uninstalled a CPU frequency tool that I'd recently installed and it seems to have fixed the problem. I will update if the problem comes back!

For anyone who is wondering it was a Ubuntu applet called "CPUFreq".

Middleton Bios Issue

I have A second hand ThinkPad T61 with a hard drive that it on it's way out so I went ahead and ordered an SSD to give the laptop a performance boost. To ensure that I get the most out of my ThinkPad I decided to go ahead and flash the middleton bios mod to get SATA 2 speeds. All the flashing proces...
