Re: Positive feedback for FAIR Traders

Strong praise for automobus here. He helped me figure out what I needed then provided the tools I needed to get up and running, offering me charity-case pricing since I’m currently between jobs. Thanks again sir!

Re: External Enclosure for 2.5" IDE HD at 3.3v

Digging out the actual HD I see right on the label that it looks like it operates with both 3.3v and 5v inputs, am I reading that correctly?

Re: XP Tablet Edition install media

Nevermind guys, I see now that this has come up many, many times over the years - I just wasn't using the right search terms. Nearly all of the links from prior threads on this topic are now dead, so before I go hunting down an active source let me back up and expand the scope of my question: What i...

Re: External Enclosure for 2.5" IDE HD at 3.3v

Thanks RBS. I'm actually trying to operate the HD outside of my computer, (for imaging/cloning/accessing the HD contents from my desktop, etc...e.g. right now my x41T is dead with a faulty DC-in module). So I'm looking for an external USB enclosure, but all the off-the-shelf ones seem to provide 5v ...

XP Tablet Edition install media

Hello board, I bought a used X41 Tablet some years ago that came with a fresh Windows XP OS already installed. Checking into it now, I see that it's actually a Retail version of Win XP Pro installed on the machine, but the COA sticker lists an authorization code for an OEM Windows XP Tablet Edition ...

External Enclosure for 2.5" IDE HD at 3.3v

Hi guys, I'm looking for an enclosure for the HD in my X41 tablet - it's the Hitachi style 1.8" PATA HD which connects on its long side with a 2.5" 44-pin IDE connector, but draws only 3.3v through the X41t. All the enclosures I can find for a 44-pin IDE interface provide the standard 5v for a 2.5" ...

In the Adapter Properties try changing the Power Save Policy from its default "Legacy Power Save" mode to "WMM Power Save" instead and see if that clears things up.

Thanks for the feedback guys. RBS you must loathe me by now. I removed all but one pic and linked to the rest. I apologize for the trouble, I really just want to follow the rules! I even read the Rules of the Road and FAQ stickies, I promise. Thanks to your feedback though I'm getting closer and clo...

FS: Nice R51- 1.7 GHz Dothan, 15" SXGA+, XP Pro, Office 2010

Hi guys, I have an extra R51 I thought I'd post on here. It's model 1830-AC1, features: 15" SXGA+ display (1400 x 1050) 1.7 GHz Pentium M (Dothan) ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 video card 512MB RAM 20GB HD (Hitachi DK23CA-20), OS image leaves 9.xx GB free Intel 2200BG wireless internet (installing new on...

Re: Dead X41 Tablet, mobo removed, bake? *PICS*

Thanks RealBlackStuff and rkawakami, it's an honor to be helped personally by the heavy hitters of the community. A few details remain, I've underlined the specific questions for clarity. Rkawakami, thanks! The Q-tip gave me the leverage needed to remove the dried compound completely, which is good ...

Re: Unique R51 wireless problems with Intel 2200BG

Another related question: for wired LAN, should I be using the Pro/100 or Pro/1000 driver? I removed all networking drivers and it doesn't auto-install the replacement for the ethernet connection on restart, and both Pro/100 and Pro/1000 are offered through the lenovo support site for this model. (I...

Unique R51 wireless problems with Intel 2200BG

Hi team, sorry to be such a consumer of advice lately but I really appreciate all the help. In this case I've wasted the entire weekend trying to get the wireless internet connection working on an R51, model 1830-AC1, running Windows XP SP3. It would not connect to my home router (ActionTec C1000A D...

Re: X40 boot question

Sorry to revive this thread but I wanted to add an observation that may help the future user who finds this using 'search'. I tore apart a cheapie USB card reader today to find a small PCB on which several card interfaces were mounted. At the USB-end, the board terminated into four small wire leads ...

Re: Dead X41 Tablet, mobo removed, bake? *PICS*

Hey thanks so much for the help guys. I apologize for the sloppy pic links, I wasn't aware of the local conventions. I see to keep it under 50kb in the 'Rules of the Road'...is 640x480 the preferred resolution? Regarding the DC jack, I received the replacement but I'm still waiting on a desoldering ...

Re: Dead X41 Tablet, mobo removed, bake? *PICS*

Realblackstuff - thanks for the heads up, I linked to the full size and resized to 800x600 for inline presentation. Twistero - I checked the AC adapter, steady 16.2v at the tip, and tried another from an R51 which showed 16.6v at the tip, so it looks like the problem is at the DC jack. Are the repla...

Re: Dead X41 Tablet, discharged caps, mobo removed, bake?

Hey thanks so much twistero. I do have a multimeter, but looking at the board I realize I'm not sure what a capacitor looks like if it's not the cylindrical electrolytic type. Several hours now on Google and I still can't find a picture of a capacitor on a laptop mobo. I did check the voltage at the...

Dead X41 Tablet, mobo removed, bake? *PICS*

Hi guys, huge fan of the X41 tablet here. I've long maintained among my techie friends that it's the most underrated device of the mobile computing era, but that's a separate editorial. I've been running mine fine on AC power for some time now, but recently delivered a gentle bump to its left side w...
