Re: X301 battery experiment
Check this very interesting article about SSD behavior during power failure from Ohio State University. There is 14 pages pdf detailing tests and results included. It is relatively recent article but nevertheless I always backup data on classic spin disk and that is why I'm about to purchase bay ada...

Re: X301 battery experiment
... so far so good... Manged to get back energy storage from 21Wh to 37Wh but still looking for maximum in third experiment. Just to note that windows will hibernate the OS whatever the settings in the power manager to save data, even when you set it to "no action" after reaching battery reserve lev...

Re: X301 battery experiment
I decided to protect my SDD against sudden power failure by letting the battery go to the first 5% level and then power down machine, remove it from bay and start it without SSD to last screen when it is asking for installation disk or SDD to boot from. Then I will let it run until death. I hope it ...

Re: X301 battery experiment
Ok I'll try it again and let it run until it will switch it off by it self. Do I have to charge it back to 100% turned off or with computer running? Will the zero turn off damage in any way my SSD? Did you manged to increase your wattage back to higher amounts by this? I have to try it on battery wh...

X301 battery experiment
I read a lot of threads and opinions from users about batteries and their life expectancy. To sum all attributes whether to buy genuine or after-market battery I came to this conclusion: New lenovo x301 6 cell battery costs about £150 (USD 225) postage and VAT included. After-market (e-bay) x301 6 c...

Re: Why I'm not using TPFan Control on X301
I tried that 8000 RPM, boy that is loud. It sounded like Pratt and Whitney spooling up just before fuel ignition ha ha. However that setting is emergency only. If users are complaining about fan noise, it has to be this. I tried it on T60 and it took it above 4300 and that was even more loud than X3...

Re: Why I'm not using TPFan Control on X301
Yes you are right. X301 cannot be compared to other thinkpads. Therefore I titled my post as TPFan usage on X301. To update things I installed Power manager (version 6.54) and RPMs went down to 4560 when it is not used very much. Previous values were taken without power manager, please note that pow...

Why I'm not using TPFan Control on X301
Before I purchased my used X301 on e-bay in recent weeks I was browsing through tens of threads about users experience with this machine. Many users were using famous TPFan Control to lower so called fan noise. I don't know maybe I'm lucky but I don't hear any particularly annoying noise from the fa...

Re: Loose hinges - my solution PICS links
Hello, After applying my solution there is still some play in game. I'm still looking for screen replacement so it is still in dismantled state. To compare things the play is however much much smaller that it was before. To make it super tight I would have to stick in more and more metal sheets. The...

Re: Loose hinges - my solution PICS links
Unfortunatelly I had only one set of hinges available and it is quite difficult to pull the metal parts which I slided in out again. It is bassically one way process to get it in. In fact it is straight and simple process. I would say that holding those hinges in pliers against table can really show...

Re: Loose hinges - my solution PICS links
I hope it is all right now. I have my IBM T60 (production date 2006) with loose hinges that I needed to fix so I just wanted to share my solution. By loose hinges I mean that when it is open and you touch the lid it goes loosely before you can experience resistance of the hinge itself, hope it clari...

Loose hinges - my solution PICS links
You all know common problem of loose screen lid, moving here and there because of additional ageing of hinges. Some say to replace them with new ones, some say to buy them cheap from e-bay, I SAY NO! Since my girlfriend accidentally smashed screen on my T60 by dragging headphone cables of the table ...

Re: NEW T60 Temperature Thread - Especially high GPU Temperature
Lock ups solved. I was not able to walk in default house model in sketchup pro and play few seconds of Call of duty 2 even the GPU temperature was low. I uninstalled and cleaned entire package of ATI drivers and perform registry entry delete and installed all things one by one, first drivers from mi...

Re: T60 random freezing
I had lock up problems due to the GPU overheat. After I solved GPU overheat problem machine did lock up couple of times resulting in one occasion with screen flash and failure of ATI driver (x1400). After uninstalling and cleaning registry and installing fresh copies of ATI drivers, lock ups didn't ...

Re: NEW T60 Temperature Thread - Especially high GPU Temperature
First attempt to resolve my GPU temperature seems to be working. I noticed that the copper plate is not touching south bridge properly. After applying thinner thermal pads on the plate I tried to settle the plate correctly. But since south bridge is a bit lower than GPU it was not seated properly. I...

Re: NEW T60 Temperature Thread - Especially high GPU Temperature
Hello, Reporting same problem. X1400 core 2 duo t7200 and on the battery GPU is on 80, writing this text. I changed last night heat-sink suspecting tube failure and the teperature is even higher because I replaced old used temp pads with new thinner ones. During my first power on test keyboard bezel...

Re: screen leds not working
Thanks, but I don't have problem with power on password. That lenovo support explanation is somehow confusing. There is hardly few occasions you can find thinkpad asking for password with that tie guy icon next to the cursor. It should be changed because I can enter to the BIOS, in fact I'm typing f...

Re: screen leds not working
Now the machine is Core 2 Duo T7200 with ATI X1300 card and it is much more faster than previous configuration. Replacing the motherboard didn't solve the problem with leds on screen so I will buy replacement for inverter board first. ADMIN EDIT: <removed discussion of possible bypassing of supervis...

Re: 14" T60 frank? (yes-it worked)
I'm in a process of same thing. Just started to building my T60 from scratch on ebay. I managed to buy spare parts damaged laptop with screen SXGA+, some people really don't know what they are selling. Now I'm waiting for base with motherboard with CPU and fan of Core 2 Duo T7200 2Ghz. Just using my...

Re: screen leds not working

Re: screen leds not working
That's what I'm thinking as well, but I'm in process of getting another motherboard with base or just motherboard to upgrade it to better graphic card and core 2 duo processor. So when all of this will be together and this symptom will persist I will go for the inverter as first thing. I have to che...

screen leds not working
Hello, I recently started to building my own T60 from e-bay leftovers. I bought T60 model 1951A47 according to BIOS main page but missing sticker on the bottom of the base. Motherboard is 41W1360. The LCD screen is native 1400x1050 which is according to the model 1951A47 listed on lenovo support pag...
