I dont want webcam now but who kows;) there are several cameras with distant lens that can theoretically be hacked to place separately from board, but couldn't find a USB one so far. here are few ...

Did you twist the 2 USB data wires together?
About 5mm and the are not twisted, they are wired to the opposite side of the board from different sides (see the pic).

Ok, so here are the details of recent "progress" The trimming I decided to make a hole on the right side to fix it same way as the bluetooth module is . Amazing how you keep upgrading this already "middle-aged" laptop! that's the whole fun, upgrading a newer machine is not that challanging  I have few newer machines (X1 Carbon, W510) and used to have several 12 inch X. None of them gives the same feeling of ergonomy and compactness as th...

webcam mod for x61 (PICS)

Hi, I have been working on a webcam mod for my x61 recently, so would like to share with the results so far. As you know there is no much space inside the x61 screen to place a webcam. So for me there are two options: 1. a tiny webcam module from another model to be small enough to fit into the spac...

Re: X61 with touchscreen (not tablet) DONE!

SXGA+ with touch done! The brightness doesn't seem to suffer at all. At least didn't notice anything (this particular screen is LED). Unfortunately, the film is more glossy than the glass, but not too much. The touch is quite responsive, just need to get used to high resolution when using finger (or...

If there's a WWAN enable setting in the BIOS, try enabling it. Yes, it was on. Did you tape Pin 20? Otherwise all USB cards in that slot without FRU get switched off like you experienced. No, actually I didn't. Do you mean that they get switched off when machine goes to sleep? because the USB was w...

I don't know much hardware details about mpci slot, but can share my experience with it. As you may know I have made a touchpad mod on my x61 http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=114633 I had used the mpci to usb 2.0 adapter to connect it. The problem was that every time the machine was b...

Re: Screen shutting off on X61 Tablet

I really hope this is a software problem and not a hardware problem, and if it's a hardware problem I hope it can be fixed by replacing the screen assembly, as I plan on doing that next week. Well checking if its a software issue is very simple, just install a windows 7 and see it it works. As for ...

Re: Screen problem with my X220

the LCD cable is attached to a board on the back of the screen. This board is then attached to the lcd panel by a film from top (sometimes bottom) of the glass panel of the screen. The film has the width of the whole screen. When this film is damaged or under pressure you see vertical lines like in ...

I took a heatpipe from a not working fan and attached it using permanent heat grase.

It has improved the heat level a bit. I haven't done detailed comparison though.

Re: SOLD X61s SXGA+, touchpad overclocked on sale in ebay.

Theoretically, it is possible to take a keyboard from a lenovo usb keyboard ( the ones with ultranav) and place on the laptop. I compared visually my usb keyboard with the one on my w510. They seem to be of identical form. It can be connected to a usb port from the board. The only problem would be t...

Awesome! Next project: properly fitting a classic keyboard into a T430. It seats and works, but some keys are dead and some are switched. If you manage to get it working right I'll buy the machine from you. Heck, I'll could kiss you! check this out http://hackaday.com/2014/04/30/using-a-thinkpad-ke...

Yep, you are right. No rush this time. I will try to do the mod in any case. The revenue is not the primary goal. So let's see what comes out first  The initial plan is to cut and remove the whole back of the lid and to do a new one. The screen assembly will get a bit thicker, to fit the scree...

Re: X61S and X61T Win 7 Questions and More

You can replace the battery cells. You need to do one of two things. Either not break the circuit while replacing the cells, or short a certain pin on the battery's circuit board to reset it. If you are replacing cells in an original battery the circuit must stay connected. Shorting the pins doesn'...

Keep those awesome mods coming. :thumbs-UP: In the end I did not bid on it. Personally I could not justify another laptop right now, and it would not get from me the use such an amazing machine deserves. I thought my Switzerland-based friend might take an interest, as he likes the X6x series, but I...
