Re: Lenovo Thinkpad T400 - DVD CD RW Optical Disk Drive AD-7

My point was to test whether it's not software-related (that's why I asked for live bootable media) :) Anyway best drives are always Liteons, sadly they don't make any laptop drives, however there's compatible part Panasonic UJ-862s for Lenovo Tx00/Wx00. LG make great screens, but terrible drives - ...

Re: Is DDR3L-1600 compatible with a T500?

To my knowledge, Tx00, Wx00 and Xx00 models does not support DDR3L specification (I'm purchasing RAMs for my T400 as well), however DDR3L are in general more stable than regular DDR3 at 1.5V (they need to meet strict criteria), so by getting these you'll lose nothing, though they are a bit more expe...

Can you post a screenshot from Lenovo Power Manager (Advanced, Battery tab)?
It seems to me, that there is a charging threshold set.

Re: LED T400: Retrofit a CCFL LCD will work?

I have a spare LED screen for T400, though I probably don't meet the forum criteria (post count) to be able to sell it to you.
There are 2 types of LID, with and without space for inverter, don't remember the part numbers now, but you'll need the second one

Yep, this is definitely GPU related, I'm afraid you would have to change motherboard to fix this.

Re: T400/W500 - Enormous idle consumption on dedicated graph

OK, thanks a lot. Wattage is measured both ways - software through Power Manager and RMClock and also amperage on 20V input, lastly thermal dissipation of the ATi card (though that's rather an estimation). Measuring amperage on 230V IN would be very inaccurate due to power supply's average ef...

Re: T400/W500 - Enormous idle consumption on dedicated graph

You know, 3 watts would be totally OK by me, as I am trying to say this whole thread . However 10W is way too much. And even if iGFX is "on", it shouldn't have any measureable impact on consumption. If that was true, then how come HD3470 equipped laptops such as disassembled Acer on my workplace doe...

Re: T400/W500 - Enormous idle consumption on dedicated graph

Those are just about the figures I'm getting - about 20W on that brightness being sitting duck. The reason for me is simple - efficiency. 4500MHD is not really optimized for 3D games no matter their requirements, a dedicated alternative should consume even less power than integrated as it's optimize...

Re: T400/W500 - Enormous idle consumption on dedicated graph

Again no, thermal design power is just what you explained but it has nothing to do with current issue. Third recap: Why is idle power consumption on dedicated graphics higher by significant amount than reviewers, manufacturers and just about any average user stated? Let's try different approach: Tho...

Re: T400/W500 - Enormous idle consumption on dedicated graph

:D LOL! Good one. Actually NO. CPUs are P8700 and P9500, both are undervolted and underclocked and consume max. 12W which is way below their specs. And that's not how CPU would behave anyway, nor it would make any sense - the temps are pointing to the GFX. Let me repeat what I said in the first post...

Re: T400/W500 - Enormous idle consumption on dedicated graph

Yep I forgot to mention PowerPlay - it's on "maximum battery saving"
CPU is running at its lowest voltage (0.875V) and lowest non-LFM multiplier - 6x - 1600MHz
Same thing :(

T400/W500 - Enormous idle consumption on dedicated graphics

Hi there, for a long time I thought it's just normal function of HD3000 series to be totally power inefficient, however after reading several reviews on T400 and T500 (W500) I came to conclusion that something is wrong. My new T400 drains about 16W in dedicated mode just by idling and 'sitting total...

Re: T400 - which screen brand to get?

The laptop looks very good otherwise, the seller also agreed on partial refund (about $25). Anyway will the WXGA+ be compatible with the current WXGA in terms of bezel dimensions? Thinking of getting this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360732184175 Though there's this difficult question, what to do ...

Re: T400 - which screen brand to get?

Actually it'd be great if that's possible, but I'm afraid it's not.
The seller installed Refurbished Windows 7 Pro on the machine so it has Win7 sticker on the bottom, so according to our laws, once it has been adjusted to customer's request, it cannot be returned in standard 14-day period.

Re: T400 - which screen brand to get?

I'd leave that "opening" part till there's no other option, as it would break seller's warranty. Though right now, don't have much choices.

Re: T400 - which screen brand to get?

Actually I can tell myself just by looking at it - it's 100% LED (so I assume 30-pin connector) - the PWM flicker doesn't occur on CCFL screens, ever. Nevertheless I looked into it and the specifications from Lenovo doesn't match the screen resolution on this one (WXGA+ vs. WXGA) so it must have bee...

Re: T400 - which screen brand to get?

Thanks for your help.

TypeID didn't help much as well, 2768-11G - I found only WXGA+ screens under that type.

I had X220 with quite strange screen as well, greenish tint. Later I found that most laptop screen are that sickly green, is it tied to specific screen manufacturer? :-D

It's WXGA LED. There's different pin count for WXGA vs WXGA+?

Otherwise this screen flickers a lot, is that normal?

T400 - which screen brand to get?

Hello, I have just purchased used T400 in very good condition, it's flawless, well with one exception, HUGE smudge on the screen. From what I know, it is not possible to run W500 with QC. YES, the temperatures won't be too high (42W TDP is still OK) YES, the socket accepts QC CPU But the BIOS won't accept the CPU. Many users across different forums reported black screen and shut down when they tried to run QX9300. On the other...

How to repair bricked battery for T500/W500

Hello, when I was trying to stress my W500 to its limits to find out the maximum power consumption I accidentaly bricked my most favourite 12-cell battery. Now what I mean by "bricked"? The battery cannot be charged or discharged, but I am certain that the cells are fully functional. I might have fr...
