Re: [Debian] Thinkfan Installation Guide + Configuration Tutorial

by default, the fan will be stuck at a fixed rate (3300 RPM) without setup. This means that your laptop might be improperly cooled, leading to either overheating or overcooling, wasting precious battery power. I cannot be certain, as I use T430, not T420, and Linux Mint instead of vanilla Debian, b...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

If it sells well they will keep the series and make classic thinkpad 2, 3, and so on, if it doesn't give enough profit, then they won't. It seems really as simple as that to me.

Re: Lightweight Distro for my 600?

I have a laptop with the exactly same hardware and I use AntiX on it. AntiX is lightweight enough, but also large enough to have most of the things modern OS should have to be convenient for everyday use (albeit I don't use that laptop every day, rather every half a year).

Looks like a good date to set a release date for the project, but I guess it will also be affected by the CPU's release.

Re: On Linux, Windows, Privacy, Security and Work

What about using a virtual OS then? Use Linux and run Windows via such software? Have you tried that? https://www.virtualbox.org/ Maybe it would be more convenient than taking along two laptops with you. I am not sure about the performance of an emulated OS though (I have never used it), so test it ...

I have T430 with eGPU (actually - have had, because I had to leave it in Poland when I was moving to China). It can run only in x1, and the performance loss depends on specific games (or rather their engines), you may want to check out my topic about it, it might give you an idea about the setup (li...

Moreover, they don't sell a lot of such computers, so the price per unit is higher for them too. I support the idea, but as it has been already mentioned, it doesn't really have many advantages for an average user, so I will probably never get one. I do still think that it is important we have such ...

Re: cpu Temperature t430s

I get spikes to 95C in full load on my CPU in T430 as well. The CPU is made to withstand 105C, but it will never reach such temperature, as it will throttle down if needed (I think it happens around 95C too). I think from what I've seen what happens to my laptop is that when it reaches about 95C, th...

Worth buying "Discrete NVIDIA NVS 5400M with Optimus Technology" and power management works well to get good and long runtime even with 9 cell battery?
