Re: How do I look up specs on my new T61?

Well, I played around with the warranty lookup tool on Lenovo's site and found I had to enter the S/N without any dashes, then the model number without dashes. The manufacture date that says 07/11 refers to 2007 November, I see. I thought it was odd a T61 would be made in 2011! This makes sense, I'm...

How do I look up specs on my new T61?

This week I received a mystery refurb laptop that I bought on Woot.com. It ended up being a ThinkPad T61. I want to look up the specs and see what I got. But I can't find ANYTHING when I try to look up the serial number. I thought I could see when it was originally sold by entering that into the war...

Wow, that brings back memories! I've used FAR Manager on and off for the last 10 years or so instead. It's free. It allows me to copy large drives and resume copy operation if there's a permission block or other such thing that would make Windows explorer just fail and give up. It also gives time es...

I recommend taking it back apart and checking all the connectors carefully. Disconnect each one and reseat them.

Re: Re: T440 considered "low-end" now?

Thanks all - ill take a look at the 440p. I imagine the 440s dropped the ultrabay? In any case, those looking for a "good" laptop should probably drop the straight 440 as an option and stick with the 440s or 440p... Yes, the 440 and 440s lack UltraBays. The 440p has a new type of UltraBay and there...

I have a T440p and it's not big at all. I guess you could always find something smaller... Yeah, it's not crazy thin. It's like "normal-thin" for a laptop, whereas the T440s is super thin (at the expense of better cooling and internal space for options). I'm also hearing a lot of complaints about th...

I did notice FlexView listed on my new T440p and listed there in tabook. I don't know if they "market" it, but they sure do still use that term. Heh...even a retired FlexView farmer like myself can learn something new every day... :) Thanks for sharing. Thank YOU guys! I love learning all this stuf...

Different RAM modules have different timings. You can easily look the timings up by Googling the model numbers on each stick. Or use software like Speccy from Piriform.

I think Lenovo is probably better off without BlackBerry. It seems nobody has any confidence in them anymore. The question is, what could they have gained with the BB patents, which I assume are quite valuable?

They don't need a marketing gimmick, according to their profit levels as of late. They're not doing it because they need it, but because it's the smart and savvy thing to do. And they can afford it. Of course marketing and engineering departments are different. In my opinion, Android is a far superi...

Marketing wise, I think Ashton Kutcher was a good idea. It will get a lot of attention, which will undoubtedly lead to many millions of dollars in additional sales. It should pay much more than his salary and nicely fund the improvements we all want, should they choose to do so. I'm hoping he really...

I ordered a T440p

I was eagerly awaiting the day these models would be available. Tonight I customized a T440p and placed my order. Here's the specs I went for: Intel Core i5-4300M Processor (3MB Cache, up to 3.30GHz) Windows 8 Pro 64 14.0FHD (1920x1080) IPS Screen NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M 1GB 4GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM...

Re: thinkpad t440 w/ discrete graphics for GAMING?

You might consider the T440p. You will have the option of a GeForce GT730M, which is supposed to be 4.8x faster than Intel's HD 4000 according to this: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-730m/specifications It also allows for more RAM, at 16GB instead of the T440's 8GB max, and...

I used to see that a lot because of SpeedStep in the BIOS reducing the CPU power for energy savings. Can you check your BIOS and see if disabling that (or whatever it's called in there) brings your reported CPU speed to the right value?

What about the T440p? It has the optical drive. Would it allow for a 2nd hard drive? Hopefully three things will bring Lenovo back to better designs, at least for one line of models so they can continue to profit as they currently are: 1) loss of business from large companies, 2) listening to feedba...

What about the price difference between the X301 and T440s? Five years ago, a review on CNET said that the base price was $2,605 and configured, their unit was $2,920. The T440s starts at $1,149. Why are we comparing these two models to each other?

In my opinion, stay away from the lower resolution screen unless the user has bad vision. Even then, you could choose the better screen and change the DPI setting in Windows to 125% to make reading things easier. The only benefit I can think of for lower resolution is that the GPU doesn't have as mu...
