Re: Lenovo r500 overheating
My R500 came with the T9600 from Lenovo, but it sits on a dock 99.9% of the time and I wouldn't even know if it was overheating. I agree with the calls to check and reapply thermal paste. I might also consider changing out the fan, although I would try the paste first and see if temps come down.

X61T mobo into X60T chassis.
So here's the deal. Back before I lost my mind at the end of 2013 I acquired a working X60 Tablet (without the base) with a known defect of the touchscreen not working for a nominal cost. I then forgot about this Thinkpad and while cleaning out the closet I found it again. I don't have a specific us...

Re: R61 upgrades? Advice needed.
I would switch to an SSD hard drive and I echo RealBlackStuff's recommendation on the Middleton BIOS which unlocks SATA II speeds on your motherboard (effectively double). I just refurbished an X61 for a friend, the Middleton BIOS and Kingston SSD make a world of difference even with Win7 x64. I wan...

The R60 in question is Type 9462-7AU. I do not believe it has ATI graphics.

Re: Back lit keyboard hack ideas?
I've never attempted such a thing but am intrigued. On the cable which connects from the keyboard into the mobo, there are may be two power input wires: one for the num lock etc, and one for the back light. If you cut the ribbon, figured out the wiring configuration, and rewired the backlit strand i...

T60/61 fan in R60?
My R60 gets awful hot after about 45 min of use. I was going to open her up, replace the fan/apply thermal paste, and see if I can find a whitelist BIOS for an N-card swap. I recall reading a comment on a frankenpad explaining the T6x fan was necessary because it cooled better. I was curious to know...

Re: I am a traitor and I love it
@pianowizard The free Latitude I believe is a driver issue, but I'm using the drivers Dell provided via their website... so either they aren't providing me the best driver or the driver they did provide wasn't thoroughly tested. In any event I've done probably about a hundred 2000 or XP builds over ...

Working with 60 series motherboard.
I removed the speakers from an R61 and what I would like to do is either build a wiring harness for both or splice the speaker wires in my R60 in order to install these two small speakers under the palmrest. Has anyone had any experience with doing this or working with/obtaining the small plastic co...

Re: I am a traitor and I love it
I'm waiting for my new Precision but aside from my M90 and M6500 I have had nothing but trouble with Dell laptops. My current work rig is an Latitude E6520 and its either the Dell image or Windows 7 but this is the most annoying and problematic POS I've ever had to use on a regular basis. Thankfully...

@Medessec, PowerPC
Thanks for the responses, When/if these things are offered I'll ebay a T4x.
@lanesharon
I am in no way fluent, but I have a co-worker who is from China and helped me translate for three projects I had to do this year. I could see if she'd be willing and post in the NB51 forum.

Re: WTB: Budget Thinkpad $250 And Under
I agree on the 400, a T400/T500 can be had for reasonable money and with whatever is left you can max out the memory.

Re: Death of the ThinkPad, an Analysis
I just ordered a Precision 4800 (and my company is a Dell shop regardless) but Precision is the only Dell I would personally spend dime one on. The Latitude they saddled me with is most unimpressive, esp given its the top tier Lat in 2011, at work I pined for my R60 (at home) or my old Precision M90...

Zender Bios on x60? The only modded BIOS i was aware of was the Middleton BIOS for the *61.

Re: T61 falling apart - what now ?
@precip9 Great information, I'll be on the lookout for these subpar examples. I've worked with Precisions professionally they are probably the best outside of their equivalent high end Thinkpads, trouble is they tend to go for twice as much used as Thinkpads. I've never serviced one so I can't say i...

Re: Need replacement wifi for Thinkpad X60
I would check the IBM hardware maint manual or spec sheet for the X61's wireless card (which should be N vs abg). I was able to swap in a R61's wireless card into my 60 and upgrade to N and simply used the 61's factory wireless driver (intel I believe).

Re: loading drivers
I had the wireless driver and subsequent .NET issues doing the R60s, the Lenovo update tool requires .NET 3.0 or 3.5, not 2.0 SP2. Install the 3.x frameworks and it should work wonderfully.

Re: ThinkPad T40 - Good buy for internet usage in 2013?
I think the consensus is clear but I'll add my two cents. The first Thinkpad I acquired was a Northwood P4 in 2009 for $50 off Craigslist. Came with XP and other software, I upped it to 1GB DDR and even at the time it struggled with memory issues surrounding Firefox and other apps. I next picked up ...

So I just bought two locked R60s on Ebay...
Both are 'locked" by the security chip but the seller confessed he acquired them to unlock them and never got around to it, no details given other than the model and they are promised to be intact and POSTing. For $30 with shipping at worst I figured they would make parts computers for the four I "s...
