Flash the modified BIOS (instructions in step 1 b) in this post ) and solder the purple connection on this image: http://abload.de/img/fsb200k8qj4.jpg (225,73 kb image). I think that this should be sufficient but if it does not work, then I suggest that you also do step 2 in this post and try again...

Re: Install a 1066MHz FSB CPU on T61 (including Core 2 Quad)
Hi, Say got a 14.1" widescreen T61 with nvidia GPU motherboard: The information is so overwelming, how exactly do one do the steps to modify the board to take P9600 but run processor at 800fsb for ultra low power use? Cheers, Thinkpadcollection What you want to do is simple, but just re-inventing t...

Re: Anyone still collecting ThinkPads?
I bought a T500 and T400 over a year ago because they were cheap, sturdy, and powerful enough. I got an X61 that turned out to be a piece of useless junk and is in pieces now, a replacement X61 which works fine, and a T60 I am in the process of upgrading the screen of, if I can get around to fixing ...

That Western Digital Black^2 hard drive does not use port multiplication. It uses proprietary drivers to allow the OS to communicate with each part of the drive separately. Without the drivers, only the SSD portion is accessible.

Very cool, thanks for posting that. For mechanical hard drives there is very little public information available, but for over a year the cloud backup company Blackblaze has posted a lot about it on their blog. Of course they only use desktop hard drives and not laptop hard drives, but the informati...

Re: The Pentium M 770 (2.13GHz) is really cheap now
Recently I've noticed that the second highest clocked Pentium M is really cheap on eBay. Much cheaper than it was four years ago. You can get one for $5.40 from China. The Pentium M 780 is a lot cheaper now too, at $16.97 , again from China. Small change compared to the $100+ that sellers wanted fo...

I set up a friend with a T400. I had a spare 2GB turbo memory module, so I figured "why not" and installed it. Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium, and zero problems with the drivers for it I got from the Intel website.

The T520 or W520 is really the sweet spot right now. Unless you are a gamer, their performance isn't much less than current models, and their price is like buying a cheap new laptop. Plus, if cloud computing becomes more of a reality, we'll be sending our spreadsheets and MATLAB programs off to a 10...

Don't worry. Your T420 has the 90w power adapter and the X61 came with the 65w power adapter. Unless your system is using more power than the 65w adapter can deliver, they can be used interchangeably. I do it all the time.

I bought a 15" XGA T60 last year but it has mostly been collecting dust while I use my T500 and X61. A few weeks ago I ordered one of these UXGA LED screens just to try it out. I don't have a T61, but I was reading el-sahef's posts in this thread about modifying the SPD timings. Last night I tried modifying some SPD settings with my X61 and found most of my DDR2 memory to be locked. Well today I read up a bit more about it and tried a solution. Go for Linux Mint with Xfce desktop environment. Should have all you need, look decent and be fast on that hardware. I was trying the different flavors of Linux Mint on my X61 with T7100 and 3GB of RAM, and I really don't like Xfce. I was drawn to its minimalism and supposedly increased speed on ol...

but I doubt that Lenovo allowed that in the BIOS. Pretty sure it's the CPU and/or chipset that prevent ECC. BIOS support would only be a factor if those allowed it. What the 1.35 V specification in DDR3L means is that it may run at 1.35 V, not that it does or needs to. DDR3 came out quite a while ago as far as computer memory is concerned. Just like with processors, graphics cores, and chipsets, the manufacturing process has steadily improved, getting smaller a...

Re: T500 4G SODIMM, RAM compatibility questions. "mac/apple"mem?
I recommend buying the newest memory you can. I have had memory compatibility issues with older sticks, but everything has worked flawlessly with newer sticks. DDR3L-1333 is the current cheapo memory, and I think it is pretty safe. I get the distinct feeling that the T400 and T500 simply ignore the ...

Re: Widescreen LCD's on ThinkPads: This is an upgrade?!
I suspect one major reason certain people still like 4:3 more than all other ratios is that they prefer relatively low pixel densities, say ~130 DPI. To get at least 1050 pixel rows at close to this pixel density on a widescreen, we would be looking at 15.4" 1680x1050 (128.65 DPI), 17.0" 1920x1200 ...

If your T61p fails, just buy a T500 motherboard to replace it. Selling the 2x4GB DDR2 would pay for the new motherboard and new 2x4GB DDR3.
