Re: WTB: 10.4" TFT Sharp Screen Display P000220320 VF0170P01 for Toshiba Portege 620ct (or alternative)

follow-up, in case anyone else ever wants to do this: FWIW, I did find a LTM10C272 S which is working but it took swapping the wire connectors (the white plastic plug/prong thingees) from the original screen spliced onto the wires of the new screen to get it to fit. That said, I have another 620ct t...

hwattys, Thanks but I've already got 2 x 32mb chips, if I can't find some 64mb ones I might take you up on that. Anyone know if these 64mb chips RBS has will work with a 701c? Perhaps some pictures will help... Here's a pic of the RAM slot: small-pic: http://www.hierax.com/computer/thinkpad/thinkpad...

WTB : ThinkPad 701c (701cs) Butterfly RAM Memory 64mb (32mb)

I'm looking to buy some of the rare 64MB RAM/Memory for my ThinkPad 701c Butterflies ... anyone selling?

If not, I could then still use 2x 32MB RAM chips to upgrade my 701cs Thinkpads.

Re: What is the "current" X301?

I've been successfully using " Aleratec mSATA SSD to 1.8" SATA Drive Converter with Frame " in my x301 Thinkpads for a while now and they work great -- FWIW, got them from Amazon and eBay. Using up to 512gb SSD (but there is an expensive 1tb mSATA but it's a Samsung SSD). With 8gb of RAM an x301 is ...

Re: Toshiba's PC business strategy for the future and what it means for us

Toshiba has made some absolutely excellent laptops in the past -- in the 90s many of them were rivals to or better than the Thinkpads!

If the Retro-Thinkpad of futureyear isn't up to snuff, it might then be time to check out Toshiba again...

Successfully upgraded my x301 to a 500gb mSATA Crucial MX200 (CT500MX200SSD3) today using an Aleratec mSATA SSD to 1.8" SATA Drive Converter (#250245). That about maxes out the storage on my x301 (yes, I know that there is a Samsung 1tb mSATA but I keep hearing bad things about Samsung's SSDs reliab...

The 610ct (according to the similar exploded view document of it) has the 640x480 screen with part numbers of P000204600, VF0139P01, and LTM09C031A.

Weird. The other VF0170P01 number on the same screen matches the Toshiba Part number for the 620ct which is 800x600 (from the Toshiba exploded view document above). WTB: 10.4" TFT Sharp Screen Display P000220320 VF0170P01 for Toshiba Portege 620ct (or alternative)

Looking for a 10.4" Sharp Screen -- TFT 800x600 SVGA -- part numbers P000220320 and/or VF0170P01 (for a Toshiba Portege 620ct subnotebook, ca. 1995). I've been "distro hopping" trying many versions out over the last year or so on my Thinkpads: For Ubuntu I go with Linux Lite (which is based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) currently at 2.6 (2.8 update in Feb) and used XFCE 4.11 as the Desktop, simply the best of all the many Ubuntus I've tried. https://www.l...

Re: Your Favorite Desktop Environments

XFCE 4.11 or 4.12 for sure. I've tried many Linux Distros and, time and time again, the XFCE ones are the most solid and resource friendly yet still flexible: KDE was full of crashes and glitches, LXDE was good but not as many options as XFCE and XFCE did not use very much more RAM than LXDE. Windows 10 Encroaching Upon Windows 7 -- Get it Off!

with USB 3.0, a fast i7 CPU, a 512GB mSATA SSD, a 1TB 7mm HDD, and 16GB of RAM an x220 should be future-proof for quite a while, even when Windows 7 is no longer updated, it already works very well with Linux, well, anyway, that's what I'm doing with my x220 and given that I'm still getting use out ...

On older Thinkpads (0.5-2.0gb RAM), I really like the Debian-based Linux AntiX MX-14.4 "Symbiosis" ( http://mxrepo.com/snapshots/ ) -- it has been super-solid and flexible on my 600x, A31p, and T43p; and I've been testing AntiX 15 ( http://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/mxlinux/MX-krete/ ) and just tod...
