Re: Thinkpad Z61t issue

Thank you, RealBlackStuff, I will try that. dr_st I didn't know where else to put this, and I wasn't having much luck googling. I thought with the knowledge of the people on this forum they may have a better answer than I was finding in being able to remove the device & not break either of them. And...

Thinkpad Z61t issue

So...I have this Thinkpad Z61t I love it... Sadly, there's a wireless mouse USB receiver stuck in one of the front ports that I cannot remove. I was hoping that, maybe, the ports weren't soldered to the motherboard & then I could just switch them out, but alas, they are. I really would like to remov...

Re: Anyone collecting smartphones?

*Comes out of lurking mode* Not really...maybe sorta kinda...I have my very first SmartPhone that I find I'm kind of attached to. my Nexus One. It's still used daily...as a music/radio player & alarm clock. Still in excellent shape, and I'm still amazed at how well it was made, and that it still is ...

Re: X201 Touch and Linux?

I'm posting from an X200 tablet using Ubuntu 14.10 (dual boots with Windows if needed). The stylus works without a problem, but I'm having issues calibrating it for a finger. I might have to do a fresh install to get it to work. Under Ubuntu 14.04 long term support it worked without a hitch.

Re: When did you first start using the trackpoint and why?

I bought a T23 last year so I started using the trackpoint, although I was using a USB mouse more often. I then signed up to this forum, and from reading on here, I began using it more & more. I use it almost exclusively now, even if there is a trackpad on the computer.

Re: linux software for R40

Just read something about the 4M's pae/non-pae. Some are and aren't Here's a post from the Linux Mint forums: The Pentium Ms mostly from 2003 and 2004 ("Banias") don't support PAE, but Pentium Ms mostly from 2004 and 2005 ("Dothan") do. See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_M...

Re: Which linux distro for T30?

I have an R40 that's running Ubuntu Mate and does so quite smoothly, so I'd think the T30 would be similar. The card is an old ATI Mobility Raedon 7500 (I think. It's not with me at the moment), so it's using a free driver. (Think the free ATI one?) Can't do much with cool effects like I could do at...

Re: linux software for R40

This is a bit old, but thought I'd chime in. My R40 is running Ubuntu Mate quite smoothly. In the past, I've also run LXLE on it.

I think mine has PAE, though. (P4M, 2.0 Ghz, 2Gig RAM)

Re: Blast from the past <BIG IMAGES>

Ooo! I have a softspot for R40s. It was the very first laptop I bought specifically to run & learn Linux on, back in 2007, off Ebay. Mine's the 14.1" screen, but I love it. It's been dropped twice, no damage done to it either time (I'm lucky, I know!), still runs & I use it almost every day.

Re: 600E - strange smell from all 3 machines??

Whew. I know this is an older thread, but glad I searched for it. My newly acquired 600E also has that funny smell. it's not really a bad smell...just a weird one.

And as others have stated, none of the other machines have that smell.

Re: Linux distro for legacy units. 600, 770 and T23

Maybe it was just a fluke that I got it to work :??:

Maybe there are other differences between a 600 and a 600E? Or could be some differences between AntiX and AntiX MX-14 (which is what I'm using)?

Re: Linux distro for legacy units. 600, 770 and T23

May I ask if there is a special trick or procedure you used to get the audio going? I have not really missed the audio on the 600, but I have done quite a lot of reading about it, and during the winter I will try to look into it. Did you go the route with a DOS partition on your drive, or did you m...

Re: T61 + SSD, which distro to use?

Manjaro Linux is based on Arch. I've tried the live CD a few times on a few of my thinkpads, and didn't have much luck with them, unfortunately. There's also ArchBang. I thought Arch had their own live CD nowadays? I had it installed on an old Compaq Presario desktop (P2 366 mhz, 386 Mb) and it work...

Re: Linux distro for legacy units. 600, 770 and T23

Hi there I'm new here, but use Linux on both my 600E and T23. The 600E uses AntiX-MX. It was kind of slow, at first, but I was able to upgrade the RAM so it now has 544MB...it doesn't fly, but it's usable for browsing the 'net...as long as I don't open more than three tabs in Iceweasel. (lol) And au...
