Re: X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook - No Line-in or WYH Record -
Ah yes, the Windows 7 mixer has removed things that the XP mixer once had . Windows 7 also removed the MIDI mapper as well (which is insane as MS just chopped off a large chunk of their market of musicians). There's a work around for the Win7 MIDI mapper, but I presume you don't use it. When you go ...

That's great, I'll probably be getting one for the discreet buttons.
Also, here's a logo for you with the ThinkPad font:

Re: IBM Intellistation Z Pro video cards?
I have tried an ASUS R9 270 in these systems and confirmed it works (which is far newer than the HD series). I was quite surprised it worked to be honest.qserenali wrote:Have you upgraded to HD7870? Does it work?

Re: Uunderboi's T60
When the LEDs all flash on at first power up, does the power LED stay on afterwards? A) If the power LED remains on, that means there's a problem affecting with the CPU, FSB or GPU allowing the board not to POST. B) If the power LED does not remain on, that means it could be an issue with the VRM, p...

Re: X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook - No Line-in or WYH Record -
Creative is a difficult company. #1 Their 'Cambridge Soundworks' division makes fantastic speakers #2 Their drivers are terrible & rarely updated #3 Their hardware--even their high end--contains questionable components from a quality stand point That about sums it up in a nutshell. As for drivers (I...

WTB: IBM ThinkPad 240
Wondering if anyone had a ThinkPad 240 they'd be willing to sell (not to be confused with an IBM 240X / IBM 240Z / Lenovo X240). Looking for a first generation 240 specifically because it uses an ESS sound card and has a slower Intel Celeron (or as we say "celery") which'll be better for DOS 'retro'...

Re: Cool... PC-DOS preload, Thinkpad 701CS
Years ago, someone sent me a copy of the preload. I would be happy to stick it on dropbox for anyone who wants to download it. There are actually two versions - for the 486DX2 model (that nobody seems to have), there is a version with PC-DOS and Windows 3.1. The demo program is different (and in my...

Re: Annoying random beeping on a newly set up T60
By "high pitched beeps" do you mean CPU noise or the thinkpad's interrupt beep? To test this try hitting a whole bunch of keys at once (like the top QWERTY row), that will max out the keyboard buffer causing it to emit a hardware beep which I wouldn't consider that high in pitch. If that's not the '...

Re: T60 upgrade CPU Question
Using the later CPUs can increase the heat output of the system by quite a lot-- which is one reason why I still run a 2.16 Ghz yonah, the later 64-bit capable CPUs have almost a 20W more TDP if memory serves. Although you want the GPU to stay cool, the CPU is replaceable (so who cares), whereas the...

Sounds more like a cable issue if the problem changes with movement. Fortunately dissassembly isn't too difficult.

Re: TransNote PowerUp Problem
Doesn't sound like a battery problem-- I run all of my vintage ThinkPads with their CMOS batteries removed and it does not cause power issues like that. Check to see if the NiMH battery caused corrosion on the traces to the PCB it's attached to. Otherwise, it sounds like a power regulation issue on ...

Re: Thinkpad 701c replacing or removing onboard memory
Unfortunately many IBMs (not just IBM thinkpads) access the onboard memory banks first and sometimes specifically look for them. If you remove the onboard memory on say a TransNote, the system won't POST without them; the same may be true for the 701C, I'm not sure. There is no function to disable o...

ThinkPad 850 NiMH battery acid damage *photos*
This is why ThinkPad 850s are going to all die eventually, because no one ever removes the NiMH batteries (it's probably even worse since most sit around never being used): http://i.imgur.com/Ql4RK1j.jpg Fortunately this one made it through, but the connector shows the famous green NiMH "frosting". ...
