Re: Natural scrolling on t470s

You'd need to configure Xorg in some fashion (unfortunately it's fairly unstable and often drops custom settings). One of the worst pieces of software I've ever had the pleasure to deal with.

Re: Linux TrackPoint Driver (how to replicate rich IBM driver)

Virtually all Linux distros use X.org, so that's how the TrackPoint would have to be configured under. Unfortunately X.org is programmed quite poorly and after trying a bunch of things, it's just not possible to get the same awesome TrackPoint sensitivity as you can under Windows|OS/2 with Linux. Re: Thinkpad L520 deadlock

Did you check the Windows 10 event viewer / bluescreenview?
Did you try running the laptop in something other than Windows 10 like in the UEFI/BIOS for an extended period of time to see if it locks there?
Did you run a memory test with memtestx86+?

Give me back the rim! (low profile soft rim trackpoint mod) *pictures*

It's time for operation: 'give me back that soft rim and defy China's lenovo!' That means of course, hacking an exsiting soft rim. First the assessment. As we can see, the 2nd generation IBM trackpoint caps are about 2x the height of the lenovo low profile (and the soft rim was the 'tallest' of them...

Nice choice on your X1C4 ;) We bought our X1C4 because: ~Last model to support Windows 7 with Windows Update (we plan to use Win7 until supports ends in 2020) ~NVMe SSD support for future-proof storage ~16 GB RAM (first X1 Carbon model to support 16 GB RAM) Do enjoy your X1C4 ;) You know, I'm a bit...

I think this should be called the Thinkpad Retromod. If you can call a 70 corvette with a new fancy engine a 70 corvette, because it is still a sports car that does what its intended purpose. Same with thinkpads. Without a keyboard and square lcd, is it still a Thinkpad? Really, if it gets work don...

X1 Carbon Gen 4 - thoughts so far

So I've been using the X1 Carbon (4th gen) for a good week now after getting it. Thought I'd share what I think of the laptop so far. The reason why I went for the 4th gen instead of the 5th gen, is because I prefer the hinge style on the 4th gen (Lenovo retrograded back to the static ThinkPad 'edge...

I figured there'd just be tumbleweeds. This is probably the wrong forum to ask this question, although if I were to ask it on a linux neckbeard forum they'd probably just attack me--so I'll take my tumbleweeds! If you take a look at the A31, IBM redirected the cables through a middle specialized hinge, and went ahead with two 'slim' symmetrical metal hinges; they are meant for support.

IBM are in a bigger mess than Lenovo, like Oracle their revenues are shrinking month after month, global services mired in red ink, redundancies pile up and the good ppl leave leaving a husk behind. It's most likely they will sell their best assets soon to keep the share price high so the senior ma...

Re: Lenovo says goodbye to the PC

I don't know why so many people obsess over the death of the ThinkPad (or PCs in general) or Lenovo's finances. As far as many people and businesses are concerned, they're going to keep on buying ThinkPads. Heck, they've been buying them even with Lenovo's changes. It's also going to be awhile yet b...

Linux TrackPoint Driver (how to replicate rich IBM driver)

So I'll be setting up Linux on my soon-to-be-arriving X1 Carbon 4th Gen (probably Xubuntu, Debian or Open SUSE). Re: Installing OS/2 Warp 4.52 in 2017

Strangely enough I just inherited a fully functional T41 the other day. I'll try throwing OS/2 Warp on it and create a "driver package" like I did with the T43 at some time as a future project (can't guarantee when that'll be), but it's a lot easier to discuss something and find problems when you ow...

I think you misunderstand what I'm trying to do. Remember this is what I'm starting with, and I have no intention of using floppies. Since you don...

Best just to stick with AIX 4.2.1 on the 850.

Also, I'd suggest when doing an initial install to format the install partition as FAT so that you can access it from other OS's. You need to do that so that you can add a network driver, without which you are basically stuck. N.B. If you choose FAT you'll be limited as to what you can install due ...

Puppy Linux should be fine if you use the faster variants of PIIIM Tualatin (1.13ghz, 1.2ghz or 1.26/1.33 if you can find one because they are EXTREMELY RARE) with a gig of RAM. On the Windows side, W2k is the most responsive and stable one. If you want the newest stuff as possible, try Windows 7 w...

ArcaOS costs money, and quite a bit at that. I' m hoping to use freely available drivers and document what I managed a year ago. I don't think $99 (which it is on sale) is that much. There's people who pay twice that amount for the horrible operating system known as Windows 10 ($199 for pro) which ...

2.5" SCSI HDDs should have the same pin header / it's what they plug into with special caddies that makes them unique.

OS/2 PPC is an unfinished operating system and has no ability to network.

T43p (ATI models only). You won't get OPL3, though. Not many ThinkPads have OPL3. The 701C does for whatever strange reason.

I'm a bit confused... the installation steps are summarized in 14 points. And the text in red is mandatory to read.

In regards to drivers that will vary between what you install it on. If you want something simpler, use ArcaOS.
