Re: People that request personal tech support

To be honest, when I have "fouled up" (being polite here) with something like that, I have unplugged then stripped the mouse and doused it in/with IPA. I buy the stuff by the gallon since I use so much, so cleaning a mouse is nothing in comparison.... According to Thinkpad law #564 section 42: ever...

Re: T450s Shutdown Issue

Sound like your laptop was either around animals a lot, or the previous owner was pulling his hair out over it... And maybe someone spilled liquid on it at one time. A proper cleanup is in order. Not quite that bad. More like they used the notebook as a dinner tray. Somebody was having some sloppy ...

Another thumbs up for the write-up. Concise, illustrated and has everything one needs. :thumbs-UP:
And plenty of high-res pictures, one of the advantages of making it 3rd party.

I have Microcenter within 15 minutes of me and they have I think 3 Thinkpads. When really shopping, I go to B&H Photo and Video. Re: Trouble pricing 310e and 701cs w/butterfly

The 310E I'd put at around $50. DSTN display, and it's just a generic mid-90s laptop. No CD-ROM. Not a very good machine, but someone might find it useful. Also doesn't have a true Thinkpads keyboard. 701CS. I'd put it around $100-150. Cracked screen is a big loss because it would be a few $ to fix ...

I get calls every week asking for free tech support. I tell them to bring in the system as I don't do phone diagnostics. $35.00 for the first hour. I get calls from tech support every once in a while. I fire up my IBM PC 5150 and let them try and fix that. "What do you see on the screen" "An orange...

If their is one thing that bothers me is when people bother me about personal tech support. I was on reddit today browsing r/ThinkPad and a message popped up. Re: Bought a 15" 1400 x 1050 T60 with TN panel!!!

Well I also happened to get myself a UXGA TN panel designed to work in T4x, R5x and T/R6x series. Not intended for any means, it advertised for a brand new replacement for T6xp series on eBay. It is brand new (LG/Philips branded) and works pretty good - but just not IPS. Ended up shifting that scre...

Thinkpad duplicates?

Seems that Thinkpads had models that were in the same machine in two different numbers. Why?

So far I have come up with this:
Thinkpad 755C and 370C
Thinkpad 355C and 360C
Thinkpad 240Z and i1142
Thinkpad 380 and 385(all machines)

Before buying the adapters, which may not work, keep in mind that LED TVs typically consume much less power than CRT TVs: for example check this site . In the long term you would save money by getting an LED TV, versus buying the adapters and continuing to use the CRT TV. The LED TV would also doub...

Looks cool. Apple's touchbar isn't that new then (760, X1C2) That isn't a touchbar, it's just a status indicator made from an LCD and it isn't even the first. The X1C2 was though. The 760 and 770 used LCDs as indicators. Many laptop from the early-mid 90s used this as a cheap and easy way as status...

I have a huge A/C sized cooler on mine that would probably still work even without any paste. Without paste, no cooler would help. The fan helps drive the heat off the heatsink, but without paste, the heat does not get to the heatsink, it just stays on the CPU die. :D That was just figurative, refe...

To each his own - but too often I see people recommend "refreshing" the thermal paste before even bothering to inquire that it's related to the problem. That's just bad advice in my book. What you call "Wasteful" I call protecting my investment. I definitely agree with this. Thermal paste doesn't r...

What is that greenish bar above the F keys on the 760E? Looks like some sort of LCD.
It is. The 760 and 770 used LCDs as indicators. Many laptop from the early-mid 90s used this as a cheap and easy way as status indicators. IBM used this technique as far back as the L40SX laptop from 1991.

Its either SD or SDHC. Doesn't support SDXC.

SD-2GB limit, a few rare cards came out with 4.
SDHC-32GB limit
SDXC-2TB limit.

I don't know if the Z61t is SD or SDHC but my guess is probably SDHC.

My thoughts exactly. R60 was offered with a non-IPS 15" SXGA+ panel, which would have been much cheaper to swap in during the heyday of that generation.
There wouldn't be any day of the week I wouldn't easily pay the difference to get FlexView.

We've had the power to push the amount of pixels on an X1 Talbet for years now. It's not a bottleneck. OK, looks like switch to R61i would be the most pragmatic way to go. Or spend some more money an buy T500/T510 with 1920 x 1080.

Cheers,
A.
T500 came with a 16:10 display or 1920x1200.
T510/20/20 came with a 16:9 display or 1920x1080.
