My apologies for not mentioning your great find. It's a nice system. My post was not meant to nit-pick your choice of words. We are a technically oriented forum and I'm under the false impression we all know what the names of different devices are whether it be electrical or electro-mechanical. I wa...

Re: New Zealand border cops warn travelers that without handing over electronic passwords 'You shall not pass!'

I'm very calm but I know that this can and will happen in any country not just NZ. We as a society have accepted this. There's less examination only because they don't have the time to examine everyone. The fact that most border guards (failed cops) have the power of God over a person for a limited...

Re: Monster in the house!

Solenoid is used for noise filtering in dc cable as far as I know. It's present on every thinkpad ac adapter, round black plastic thingy in front of dc connector, just not as big and heavy as here. You are talking about an RF filter coil. A solenoid is an electro-mechanical device and is something ...

There's no ned to use Chrome with Firefox and Opera available.

Or even Vivaldi.

An SSD in a T500 makes a big difference in performance. I have a T500 that I upgraded to 250GB SSD, 8GB ram and a T9600 processor. Still better than anything Walmart sells.

Do you have the latest drivers installed for the ICOM, and does it require RS232 port emulation?

Also check to see what COMM port it is trying to use and assign it that port.

My Kenwood TH-D74 is funny like that.

Mine did not get that far. But as I indicated above, it had swelled up so big from charging that the back cover was completely de-glued from the edge of the phone where the battery sits closest. This phone was not in service because I was irritated with how the phone functioned. I went back to my HT...

As plastic ages it becomes brittle due to outgassing of the hydrocarbons in the plastic. As they slowly evaporate over the years or decades the plastic becomes very hard and is prone to being easily cracked.

Same here. That's why I like my T500 so much. I love my other Thinkpads too, but they can't beat the aspect ratio of the T500 screen. In fact, it is what I'm using right now. I have a 10" Lenovo Windows tablet, but it's just used for quick forum checks and email. I have never considered a 14" Thinkp...

First generation i7 dual cores and i7 quad cores are similar by name only. They are actually completely different architectures. The i7 duals are Arrandales and the i7 quads are Clarkfields. More differences: i7 dual has the MCH with Intel GMA 5700 "HD Graphics" on a separate die on the same remova...

I replaced a battery last week in a Galaxy S7 Edge that was on the verge of exploding. Thanks to the old battery it was very easy to get the back cover off of the phone without heat.
