Re: Can Windows 98 be installed on a T42?

Well, Windows 95/98 provides direct support for DOS games and it makes your life a lot easier to install drivers and stuff. Also, DOS takes forever to load the RAMdisk, CDROM, etc. so Windows 98 starts faster. On machines like T23/A30 or later, Windows 98 boots faster than DOS, if you want to fully ...

Re: Can I use the HDD and the CPU from a T42p in a T43?

The keyboards from 14.1" and 15" T4x/R5x ARE different, they have different mounting studs on the bottom, but their layout is identical. Ok, I haven't removed the kb from the 15" yet. I was going by the kb frame, as visible from the top. Thanks for clarifying. The touchpad/mousekey combo in the pal...

Re: Can I use the HDD and the CPU from a T42p in a T43?

What happens when you put a 400MHz FSB Pentium M in a T43? You can try and search up. If your Pentium M non-Sonoma Dothan CPU runs more than 2ghz it is not recommended. There is a post somewhere on the web saying that by connecting certain 2 pins together with that CPU on a T43/R52 can result in ov...

Re: Can I use the HDD and the CPU from a T42p in a T43?

CPU in a T42p can be used for OVERCLOCK PURPOSE ONLY in a T43. I saw a forum somewhere saying that by connecting a jumper to certain pins will make the T42 processor overclock in T43 but also overheats. If your T42p's processor is a top-of-the-line version (2.1ghz Pentium M 765 or something) it will...

Re: Can Windows 98 be installed on a T42?

Windows 98 does work on a T42 but not good on T43 (I found the Catalyst for ATI Radeon 7000, 7500, 9000, 9600, X300 in a bundle but 7k, 7500, 9000 worked fine while with X300 it tells me that it cannot find the graphic device properly). However, the support for the hdd controller was limited (at lea...

Re: Can a T43p (15" ) screen be used on a T42 (14") ?

If that T42 has ATI, you can move the T42 motherboard into the T43p case, they have identical fittings. All T42 series have ATI according to ThinkWiki. It is just about which one is more powerful. Radeon 7500, 9000, 9600 (With Aero support) and Mobility FireGL T2 (the most powerful with Aero suppor...

Re: Can a T43p (15" ) screen be used on a T42 (14") ?

Screen turns dark shortly after booting up. You should try and see if you can read anything under certain lighting. If so, that means the CCFL tube is dead. And for the screen and cable and inverter if you just move the T42 motherboard into the T43 chassis it should work. Also I do have a set of XG...

Picky memory issue is seen with 600/600E series. Try another low density 256MB SDRAM. The T43 fans can be fixed with a simple spindle hack (or replacing it with an entirely different fan assembly, I think ajkula used a T42 fan the T43s). Re: ThinkPad 390X PIII Coppermine 450mhz Win7 stuck at Starting Windows

so the answer to your question likely sits somewhere in the combination of severely outdated (and I'm being kind here) CPU and insufficient RAM. I agree with you. I've seen a netbook with an Atom N450 CPU and 1GB of RAM take more than 5 minutes booting Windows 7. I've personally experienced how exc...

Well Win7 on T23 with PIII 1.13 or 1.2 with >512mb of ram is more than good enough for office use with Microsoft Office 2007 except it takes longer time to connect to the printer since it does not support usb 2.0. I may start to do that if I have the budget for another UXGA display (and of course, I have to have a difficult time trying to find a working UXGA cable) , palm rest/frame with fingerprint cutout, and another Pentium M 2.26 to drive the system. T23 is actually working good with Windows 7, much better than T22 since you get a mobile Tualatin PIII 1.13ghz instead of the old Coppermine PIII 900mhz.
