Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

Status update: PCBs arrived, but for some reason they put only 2 panels instead of 20, which means I have only 40 boards instead of 400.
I have to postpone the production until the remaining panels arrive.

But... is it normal to not be able to see the BIOS booting screen? It just shows up blank but lit if I hit F1 on boot.
Check the sense wire.

Edit : That might not be entirely accurate, as nitro's mod still installed, but no cables plugged in it. I have no idea what the idle power consumption on that thing is, but I'd guess pretty low.
Without cables plugged in it has zero consumption.

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

PCBs and components should arrive in a few days. I found a local PCB assembly service - we are going to do full automated assembly. They say it takes a week or two. After that I have to flash and test the whole batch. So, maybe in 2-3 weeks I'll be sending first emails with 'your order is ready' in ...

I got the same display a couple of days ago and found the same issue. Not sure what's the problem, but the easy way is to avoid this model.

BTW, win0win said he has lots of LP125WF2-SPB4 in stock again.

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

That kit from TaoBao didn't work with some displays that worked fine with my kit. Another concern was that Chinese adapter board attaches to the motherboard by a row of plated half-holes and the resulting connection isn't nearly as robust as 7 plated though-holes in the adapter that I made.

I doubted my soldering skills rather than a brand new (but faulty) panel.
But, is it really faulty, as it works in pre-OS mode perfectly? @nitrocaster: any idea?
Pre-OS mode uses 640x480 video mode which might be handled in some specific way. Do you have another panel to test?

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

Does the line pattern change when you slightly press to the bottom edge of the screen? No. What happens if you skip RTC warining and boot into the OS? The NB shuts down immediately. It shouldn't shut down like that if the only reason is RTC reset. Can you measure voltage on RTC_VCC, -RTC_RST and -S...

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

Sorry, I misguided you a little bit. VCC3B and VCC3M are separated by a load switch, so when it's off VCC3M does not appear to be shorted to ground. But VCC3B should be shorted if you measured shorts on VCC3MA and VCC3_CODEC. Leftmost pin (DOCKB_HPD) that should not have continuity to ground. If you...

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

Well, I guess you are not getting image because of ripped pads. VCC3MA and VCC3_CODEC have direct connection to VCC3B, which is powered from VCC3M. If your audio codec shorts this rail to ground (which is very likely) that would explain why it gets hot and why the machine shuts itself down. What is ...
