I doubt it. Any chipset older than the 945 will not have support for Core 2 or even Pentium D CPU's. You're most likely stuck with P4.RMSMajestic wrote:I've always wondered if it's possible to install newer LGA775 CPUs on G41

Re: R61: Takes Two Tries to Start
I would also point the finger at Windows 10. Perhaps a forced update (as per M$ policy) borked the bootup sequence?
Perhaps it automatically switched to assuming the computer has UEFI firmware - which is of course not present on an older machine like the R61.

FS/FT: T43 Missing some parts
IBM ThinkPad T43, Type 2686-DJU Why am I selling it? This laptop was originally intended to be the spiritual successor to my beat-up old T40, however, my T40 decided to start working again, and I managed to dig up some screws to keep it most of the way together. The T43 is a 15" model, and despite ...

Re: Is the G40 An IBM or a Lenovo?
Are you sure they're G40's and not G400's? The G400 is an entry-level machine from just a few years ago, based around the 3rd gen Core architecture CPU's. The G40 is a "high-end" monster of a laptop from the early 2000's, featuring a desktop (!) Pentium 4. I'm very sure it was discontinued before th...

Re: T40 - Which Windows OS for my needs?
I'd go with XP. It could run 7 okay-ish if you upgrade the CPU to a 2GHz+ model* but there'd be no Aero, and finding drivers would be hard. *If you do upgrade the CPU, I'd recommend a Pentium M 755 as a fair balance between price and performance (those chips go for ~$20 on eBay from US sellers, they...

T40 series cross compatibility and other questions
I've recently dug up my old T40. And I remembered why I had retired it - flaky motherboard. Sometimes it'll work - but it crashes within seconds of starting up. Most of the time it just lights up and runs the fan at full speed. I'd rather not waste time reflowing the board - the thing has been to he...
