So I've opened it, cleaned everything, applied new cpu thermal paste and temperatures dropped to 58 at idle, going up to 75 at load.
The idle temp should be a bit lower, but under load that's usually how hot my C2D gets in my R400.

Re: Retro Thinkpad T61p Build! Warning PICS!

The T61p is not retro, It can still run windows 10 without a hitch. A retro machine is something like the Thinkpad 600x. The latest OS that it can run without a hitch is Windows XP and shipped with Windows 98.

Re: R400 shuts off randomly

I think that I've fixed the issue. I had a WPAN card in my R400 and later found out it was dead after testing it out in my latitude E6400. So, I believe that the WPAN card could have caused an internal conflict that made the computer shut off.

Re: R400 shuts off randomly

We'd need to know more about the actual circumstances...does it shut down under full load ? When you put it to sleep ? Leave unattended ? It's not doing it right now, but it usually does when watching youtube and youtube isn't really a heavy task for my R400. Well worst case you will need ro replac...

R400 shuts off randomly

My ThinkPad R400 has randomly shut off about 5 times now and I'm not sure why. It's just started doing this and it's never done it before. I just hope it's not a sign of the motherboard failing  . Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Re: A31p desirability?

Thats cool how you can run a semi-modern OS on a pentium 3 thinkpad pretty smoothly. In my book, the absolute lowest-powered ThinkPad to run W7 without me wanting to put a fist through its screen every 15 seconds - I'm talking about web browsing, not typewriter application - would be a T42 with ATi...

Of course. But without updates and anti virus it is not responsible to do e-banking and such things on a machine. I have two vintage systems (Pentium 133 & Pentium 200) setup in my office for null modem retro gaming. Those machines are not connected to the WWW however. It's impossible to browse the...

Very cool build and write up. I just did some similar upgrades starting with a 14.1" T61 with a T9300 and then moving to a 15.4" T61p with the X9000 processor. Do you have any more pics of your project and/or the build? I am currently running the Middleton bios but eventually I would like to upgrad...

Re: Eeking out every usable between 2 T60s, 2 1gb ram, and 2 2gb ram pieces.

I work with 2 t60s. My workstation has a better ATI card, SXGA display, Intel 330SSD The 'server' t60 has XGA, Integrated graphics, mechanical hard drive with external hard drive for more storage. Both running XP, both with a 1gb ram piece and 2gb ram piece. So both have 3gb of ram. It's most impor...

Re: A31p desirability?

I thought the ribs on my A31p are stick on / decorative. :o I thought of the same when I first saw my dad's ThinkPad T43 back in 2005. Only to know that part a decade later. My A30 came without them, and it took me some salvaging to swap the lids with a A31p unit with it and sold the A31p with cust...

I have a R31 that I picked up on the cheap and it has a celeron coppermine (1.0GHz), 40GB HDD, 640MB ram, & (my favorite OS of all time) Windows 98SE. I use it sometimes for typing and mostly for retro gaming. It performs pretty well.

Re: A485 Reviews (English and German)

I want to get my hands on a AMD thinkpad. Youtuber BBISHOPPCM'S World said he was going to get one but he ended going with the T480 because of a rumor that the chassis was more flimsy on the A485/A285.

I don't know if You're serious or if U are joking...

More reliable alternatives could be Samsung 860 Evo and crucial mx500, for about 30/20 euro more than SanDisk.
I was being serious about the SSD, but I would shell out a little more money for a Samsung SSD.

I don't need 512 Gb.

I'd PREFER 512 but 256 could be however more than sufficient.

If you want a 512 GB SSD your going to have to spend $100 or more. A 240GB sandisk drive only costs $56 but as you stated you would like to have a 512GB SSD.
