So - is the issue that it won't install, or did it install successfully but still shows up on the update list?
Did you see any error messages when trying to install it manually?

One thought that came to mind - are the systems connected to a USB-C docking station? Perhaps the update is for the dock, not the laptop.

The name suggests it is "USB Type-C Power Delivery Firmware". Why it suggests to install it, then fails - I don't know...

Re: Near mint X61s with dim screen = trash?
Sorry, but I am no longer buying this notion that "economic growth" is necessary or even desirable. It only seems to me to benefit the architects and beneficiaries of the ponzi scheme. The other 99% of us (and the environment, etc.) are probably worse off. In addition it goes against simple physics...

This is not the consequence of some simple mistake, or over zealous penny pinching, it is the plan , from before the product leaves the drawing board - this is how they want the world to work . I understand this completely . :) The other side of the coin is that a certain level of planned obsolesce...

Re: Maximize battery life span?
Regarding option 1: Yes, a battery will theoretically deteriorate less when stored in a cool dry place and not used. With that said I would not advise anyone take this approach. A laptop is designed to be used with a battery. It serves as a backup to the power adapter during peaks of high power drai...

Get some stupidly fragile parts installed in critical places - like the plastic door latches on washing machines. I'd like to to see the engineers' faces in that design meeting. "Umm... With all due respect, the rest of the door is made from cast aluminium, glass and stainless steel, a plastic latc...

And I'll definitely be keeping a close eye on the chargers. I'm typing right now on my W530 at full screen brightness using a 65w adaptor and all is well, the battery is even charging. I'll do some tests soon rendering video on a dead battery with the 65w charger just to see what happens. Do use th...

Re: What after classic Thinkpads?
Personally, I absolutely refuse to purchase any more hardware that I do not completely "own" (i.e., unlocked BIOS/bootloader). This applies to desktop, laptop, smart phone, IP camera, router, refirgerator, or anything really. In fact I think it's obnoxious that some companies are willing to accept ...

With enough patience, I'm sure you can find something good. Private sellers sometimes take good pictures that allow to judge the amount of wear.

It can be upgraded, it was just important to understand that this is what you want. Some may prefer the lower-res. In any case, I seem to remember several years ago there was talk that there do exist some 900p TN screens that are better than the stock 900p option on Thinkpads, but I don't remember t...

Re: Supposed NIB "OEM" keyboard from Lenovo, got swindled on ebay?
Thank you so much for this detailed comparison. The FRU and other identifiers specifying a "backlit" variant, while the actual keyboard isn't - is a dead giveaway of a replica. It's actually more than that - it's counterfeit, since it's a replica being disguised as a genuine part. The key mech...

Re: OK, now we descend into the STOLEN election
Just comparing the number of arrests in DC in one day - "On June 1 alone, more than five times the number of people were arrested than on the day the Capitol was stormed, with 289 people booked." Would June 1st be the day when the "mostly peaceful protestors" set fire to St. John's church? Oh, no, ...

It was the attempted steal / subversion / insurrection / coup by the former president and his co-conspirators that failed. If that was a coup attempt, it was most definitely the worst attempt in history. I believe many more BLM rioters were arrested vs. Capitol insurrectionists That's probabl...

Re: X1 Yoga and Thunderbolt 3 Gen 2 dock
Try to see whether one of the monitors / other peripherals connected to the dock is the culprit. That is, try to disconnect everything except one monitor / keyboard / mouse, and see if it works. If so, then experiment with connecting other devices, one thing at a time.

Does Windows 10 just install generic drivers for the X200 following a fresh install of Win 10 using a new HDD with no Lenovo hidden partition...or does Win 10 automatically go looking on the Lenovo site for the correct drivers? Neither. Windows 10 will find, for each device, the best driver that's ...

I doubt it. Outside of certain niches like gaming laptops, there's little impetus for mechanical keyboards because of the added weight and thickness. Oh, I don't mean (and I don't want) mechanical keyboards in laptops. I just kinda hope that it may put laptop keyboards in general under some sort of...

I don't even think there are official Win10 drivers from Lenovo for the X200. I would first try with whatever Win10 installed by default, and if something is missing, try to download that driver individually.

Re: Should I buy a T60?
I find a T430/20/s with IPS and if applicable 7 row mod provides plenty retro appeal while still being a modern contender. Same. As time goes by, more modern laptops are released and the "retro" line moves accordingly. The only thing that I know which is a complete deal-breaker for some people is t...

A little over a year ago, I was having the exact same dilemma with respect to my T430s. Back then the SATA SSDs were also way cheaper than mSATA for the same capacity, although it was a bit less extreme. I did decide to go for the mSATA in the end (got a Kingston UV500 240GB), and paid almost the sa...

Re: Waking up from sleep issue in Windows 7
Since I never had Win7 on such an old system (my A31p is running XP), I wouldn't know for sure.
Did you verify that this is indeed the cause? For example, if you manually disable the optical drive, does the computer sleep and wake up correctly?

Re: T520 Left Click Track and Touch buttons not working
If you are lucky, it's just the touchpad that's faulty. Try enabling the trackpoint and leaving the touchpad disabled. If that works, you can replace the touchpad (or just leave it disabled). If that doesn't work, then it's likely a trackpoint issue, and you need to replace the keyboard (as it's int...

Up until a couple of years ago, I didn't think unauthorized replicas of Thinkpad keyboards existed; however, I see more and more reports on such keyboards. Since you seem to currently have in your possession your old keyboard, which is definitely an original, and this one, which is a definite suspec...
