Re: T43 to External DVI via Dock?

Welcome to the forums, ask away....! If you dock after booting and the DVI-attached LCD doesn't come on, open DESK.CPL (Display Properties control panel), go to the last tab, you can activate it. Presentation Director can also help (though I found it faulty for some resolutions). My personal favorit...

Re: LCD display Of T43 -Dull

Plan A. Get a better camera. Plan B. Get rid of dissappointing Thinkpad, live happily ever after with the Compaq. Okay, joking's over. Plan C. Use Thinkpad Configuration, click on LCD, set "Brightness when running on batteries," change from Normal to High. Expect decreased runtime on batteries. But ...

Re: Fresh Install Of XP on X40 without rescue discs

I might have my facts a little fuzzy, but I think a newer version of Access Connections 4.52(or was it Power Manager 1.52) required .Net version 3 to install. That can be installed with Windows Update, if you need it for something else. I went with AC 3.82 (last of the stable, reliable, and speedy A...

FYI

I use Access Connections on my stinkpads, 3.82 on my T43 (last version that worked well with the drivers, AND was fast to respond), and 4.52 on the X32 (which is pretty good; the 4.0x and 4.1x versions I had problems with). Windows might be the way to go on my X32 after I wipe and restore it, as I'l...

Thanks for hijacking, I'll have to find that when I get home. I also get the OSD for brightness, Thinklight, but FN+F3 and FN+F5 don't do diddly (exc. FN+F5 turns the bluetooth on and off).

Basically d/l all those drivers (most current for your model) that Ray pointed you at and install what you think you need. In my experience, the Battery Maximizer and Power Managers are mutually exclusive. I like Power Manager 1.13c, but 1.51a is pretty good. Hotkey utilities, yes. Thinkpad Configur...

Re: Wifi problem

I just had problems like this this morning. My T43 (with IBM/Atheros 11a/b/g card) stopped connecting the Linksys WRT54G 1.1 router, without any changes on either. Claimed that the card's driver didn't support the encryption (WPA2-AES). Same with a new X32 with Intel 2915 11a/b/g ... claimed the dri...

Re: Need ... X32 (2672) recovery disks, or ... can I use T43's?

Yes, believe me I RTFM'ed, but pressing "X" didn't work, it just beeped at me. Solution: I had to move included boot devices (e.g. "Legacy floppies," "PXE," "IDE HDD1") to the "excluded" list before I could move the ATAPI Dock II optical drive into "included." This didn't work when I first got the X...

Just curious, once you have this done, ... then what? I put a Firewire 800 card in my Dock II, but only use it for Sony Handycam captures.

Re: Need ... X32 (2672) recovery disks, or ... can I use T43's?

Not sure where you have heard this but I have booted and installed Windows/Linux/*BSD from both a ThinkDock I and II UltraBay2000 for years. I didn't hear it, saw it. This X32 (2672)'s BIOS specifically refuses to move the Dock II optical drive into setup's bootable devices list. It stays in the "e...

Re: FN key weirdness

Probably not. But if you're going to run an alternate "lite" version of XP, then you MAY NOT want all the IBM utilities installed, as they take up RAM, slow a system down a bit, etc. I may actually do as many others on this site have done, uninstall all but the necessary utilities. E.g. I finally ga...

Re: FN key weirdness

No joy... though I have the newer, bigger, supposedly cooler looking Lenovo UI look and feel. :P CORRECTION I found I could not order X31 recovery disks for US$10 ( plus $13 shipping, thank you IBM),.... Power Manager 1.13c worked fine (simpler interface as well), so I may roll back. (sigh) IBM's su...

Re: FN key weirdness

Pretty sure I'm using power management driver 1.52, and power manager 1.13c (same as my T43). There could be an order, but I get fatigued uninstalling and reinstalling to get the order right. After settling on teh power stuff, I uninstalled and reinstalled the Hotkey utilities. I believe the Lenovo ...

FN key weirdness

After installing the Hotkey utilities that Lenovo recommends for an X32 (2.10.0002), I'm finding that ... most of them don't work. The EZ Eject utility ... no FN-F9. With Power Manager 1.13c (1.52 on my T43 made Power Manager dog slow), FN-F3 ... nothing. With Access Connections 4.52, and the Intel ...

Re: Need ... X32 (2672) recovery disks, or ... can I use T43's?

I confused terms, sorry. It's a Dock II that I have the optical drives in. And the X32 BIOS specifically prohibits booting from it. I updated BIOS to 3.08, so I could try again. For farts and giggles, I tried imaging a drive with recovery disks in the T43, then putting it into the X32. Works great, ...

EDITED I'm not sure what my next step is actually. I determined that I CAN'T boot the X32 on a MiniDock Dock II with a CD-R drive in the Ultrabay slot. :( So my alternatives are find a USB CD-R drive to boot from, or .... would the (X31/X32) Recovery Discs work just booting from them in a T43, with ...

Need ... X32 (2672) recovery disks, or ... can I use T43's?

The X32 (2672-KBU, very sweet machine) I just bought came with a plain XP Pro installation on it, and I'd like to establish the predesktop area and recovery partition, as well as the baseline of apps and drivers. Does anyone have some ISOs or discs we can swap? I can compensate with high quality Jap...

I'm not an X40 user, but I wouldn't mix RAM speeds. RAM is cheap enough these days, get what you want, or add in a suitable complement to what's already installed.

Mixing PC4200 RAM with PC2700 in an X32?

I just bought an X32 off eBay, and can't wait to get my paws on it. I used to use them in the IBM lab where I worked ... loved the little rascals. I've used my T43 for years now, and had upgraded it to 2x 1GB PC4200 memory sticks ... leaving the original OEM 512MB stick in a box somewhere. Never got...

Thanks for everyone's input. I got to look at it, it had a cracked case by the hard drive caddy, keyboard looked popped out at the upper left, lid hinges were loose, screen and keyboard were filthy (was used in a home with toddler), but booted up fine with Fedora 10. Re: T43 Hard drive in the dvd bay

I run a second hard drive in my Ultrabay slim regularly. It's not necessarily hot-swappable, depending on how you have Windows treat the drive. I prefer the performance of it with write caching and a second pagefile on the drive, so I can't hot-swap. Then I use it for Photoshop (disk swapping, editi...

Re: Questions regarding PASSWORD protecting HDD's

I use a Power-on password, with matching HDD password, for my T43, and use the FPR to pass those in and login to Windows XP. I recall that all IBM managers were required to have the HDD password feature enabled, and systems were audited quietly to confirm this. I like this level of deterrent because...
