Re: Battery supplier for X series
I'm interested in a North American source for 6-cell or 9-cell batteries, NIB or NOS, from reputable suppliers or manufacturers.

Re: Advice needed on used X31 purchase (was "Need help on...")
I'm getting the drift ... $125 even without the HDD, though? (Looks at completed eBay auctions.) Hrm, beginning to see the light here.
Also interested in any suggested sources for NIB or NOS 9-cell batteries. Found one on eBay, but not an OEM maker ... a third party.

Re: want to restore x40 HD but USB ports are dead
I'm facing a similar issue, recovering an X31 with a new HDD, with minimal extras. Can I boot from an Ultrabay CD-ROM drive in a Dock II while the X31 is docked? Or wait ... could I plug the new HDD into my T43, do a full system recovery with my T43 recovery discs, then plug the drive into the X31, ...

Re: Need help on a purchase
Appreciate the feedback, guys, please keep it coming. I was considering offering ... on the low end, as I'm going to have to buy a battery ($40 - $60), and a hard drive ($80 or so?), then do the recovery, which could require a $45(?) set of replacement discs if my T43 discs won't work. My replacemen...

Re: Just got myself an X31, and used the R40's HPA image on it.
Bumping this thread back to life ... any wagers on if a set of T43 recovery discs would get an X31 to life sufficiently to get online and do System Updates? I'm curious about the HPA backup/restore, too ... just use a tool like Norton Ghost to backup the partition, then Fdisk and restore it onto a n...

Advice needed on used X31 purchase (was "Need help on...")
Need help here. I've had a T43 (and have wallowed over in the T4x forum) since 2005. Loved the X31s when I was in an IBM lab. Well, a colleague has an X31 (2672-REU) for sale. Upgraded to 1.5 GB RAM, replaced the MiniPCI with a 802.11b/g card from a T40. But it has no HDD, and no recovery discs. Bat...

I read of problems elsewhere on the forums for 5.02, so I tried 4.52 last wekend. It was slower and dodgier than 4.12 which I had used for some time. I used the opportunity to roll back to 3.82 (IIRC) which was not only speedier, but I liked the interface appearance. Much faster, laptop happier. Sav...

It couldn't be a mouse click in my cases as I was using a configured FN+____ combination. I'm pretty sure it was introduced by the OMega drivers, but might've been another update, as I was updating back then (2006) regularly. I have Power Manager set to do nothing on closing the lid, so no I haven't...

IIRC I believe I found that Battery Maximizer was the software that supported T40s, T41s, T42s, and the Power Manager supports T43s. I ran Power Manager on a T41 a couple of jobs ago, and it worked. Edit: OH, I see what you're saying. I didn't find any reference to 1.30b online so I presumed you wer...

Power Manager ... FN+F3 scheme choice takes forever to come
I upgraded my antiqued Power Manager 1.13c to the latest-greatest (1.47? I'm at work and can't recall). The options within Power Manager are great (more extensive options for closed lid), but the FN+F3 option to switch power schemes is taking for-EVER to come up. So long that other programs started ...

I also suggest using DISKMGMT.MSC, the Disk Management console to format the partition. Be warned, though, my XP Pro doesn't like to eject a HDD once it's been used ... to stay safe, I have to shut down to EasyEject or Remove Hardware the 2nd HDD. BTW, if your main system partition is running out of...

One minute from power-on to ready-to-rumble? Count your blessings. My system, with all the Thinkpad utilities, takes 2 minutes or more.
